Alfie is a raw kid. I wish him well, but he’s the latest in a long line to drop us without so much as a backward glance. We saw it last season to an extent with the poor behaviour of Taylor and Solly. Players come & go, but it’s never wise in this age to get too attached to them. To me the club is about the Valley, the heritage & history, and our fanbase.
At least Joe Gomez signed a New contract before he left,.making sure we got a fee, such as it was. . He didn't have to.
It is no coincidence that Alfie and Dillon Phillips have the same agent. Who advised both not to sign a new contract. How is your career going so far Dillon. If Doughty, a lifelong Millwall fan wants to go **** him off but get as big a fee as possible.
Players have the right to refuse to sign a new deal. Has Doughty actually refused to play? If not, then he's done nothing wrong. Equally though, we as fans have the right to forget about him if we wish to, or express our disappointment / frustration / disapproval of him being so obviously indifferent to something we cherish. I hope he does not expect to leave CAFC like this and still have Charlton fans remember him warmly.
If he's going to go, then the sooner the better, get it over with and let Celtic /Stoke or whoever take over his rehabilitation.
Good article from Chicago Addick. Sums up the way I feel. https://chicagoaddick.wordpress.com/2021/01/05/alfie-to-go/
Doughty could have been moved on in the summer, like Phillips. The difference was that we didn't have cover for Doughty. If we are to avoid this will-he-won't-he in future players who are entering the final year of their contracts will have to be given the choice of being sold in summer or signing a contract. It's messy at the moment. Amos hasn't signed a new contract yet is played ahead of AM-B who has. Has Amos even been offered a new contract? TS doesn't seem the type to be messed around by selfish agents.
I just hope Doughty doesn’t log on to social media after securing his lucrative move, to “thank” Charlton fans and declare his undying love & gratitude for the club. He is going to get a very blunt response.
If he loses the speed part of his game after this injury he won’t be much of a loss to be honest , I think Stoke are taking a bit of a gamble on him
If Doughty loses the blazing speed part of his game then there is nothing much else there. Technically he isn’t the greatest, and his final ball & composure is poor. As @Dick Plumb1 points out, yet another greedy and short sighted football agent screwing the hard work of a football club.
I was thinking the same thing. Owen, Bale, Walcott relied heavily on speed and were never the same after serious injury.
Lee Bowyer says that Doughty’s agent has given CAFC a new 12 hour decline to sell the player. Or what ?? Bowyer says Doughty won’t be fit to play until the end of February. Is the agent - Beswick Sports Limited - going to pick up his rehabilitation fees until then?
