It's Boxing Day, and it's Southampton at the Cottage, ko 3pm and live on Sky.
Southampton has a few injury worries which could help us today.
With Andersen having the red card rescinded our selection other than Lemina who can't play against his home team, remains as last week. With a week's rest I think we are likely to be unchanged albeit Reed comes in.
With some lady luck and continued good play we have a good chance of getting the points, we need the draws to start becoming wins for sure.
Enjoy your action packed Boxing Day, and hope Santa brought you some joy yesterday.

If we can weather the storm, get our noses in front and don't give them free-kicks near the box we could be in with a chance.
Will it be Mitro & Cairney again?
I'm still unsure why Kebano hasn't had a runout with his ability to score goals, speed and free-kicks as deadly as Ward-Prowse.
Let's hope for a good Ref for once.

Whilst I appreciate that Parker has made us harder to break down and much stronger defensively, I don't know where the goals are coming from. It is pretty obvious how Parker wants to play, but we absolutely need to sign a striker in January if we have any hope of actually winning some games and staying up.

0-0 was a fair result today. Two offside goals (correctly) disallowed for Saints and a few penalty claims either way. I have no idea how Bednarek's handball wasn't a penalty, but I guess Aina evened it out (I had a real sinking feeling that we were about to get screwed by VAR again there) and the RLC tackle should have been a free kick on the edge of the area which is dangerous with Ward-Prowse. Anguissa looked great again, Cavaleiro looked better and Lookman is always a livewire... but I'm not sure that we looked like scoring. Spurs next on Wednesday, can we somehow summon a goal from somewhere?

I think you summed it up just as I see it. A draw was a fair result, both teams battled but there were few chances and likely to be a late night if you are watching MOTD highlights.

It's a good thing that we are not losing or conceding goals, that's a major plus, but we are not making many chances and scoring therefore is very limited. Still going in the right direction, rather be complaining about a draw than where we were a few months ago, just need to keep it going.

Agree with you there Surlyc, both sets of management agreed also. Interestingly Southampton were pleased with a draw and saw us as a difficult and fierce opponent pre-match and happy they didn't concede, partly due to players who couldn't play for them. We reduced them to only 3 shots at goal and only one on target, we had 10 shots. We were pretty creative and often let down by the final poor pass, I thought Lookman was the culprit on a number of occasions. Had we been better at this I think we would have got all 3 pts.
In the short while Mitro was on the field he did well, as he did in the previous game. His one touch lay-offs and snapshots were good, so perhaps he should have some more playing time, he is a natural goal scorer.
I didn't think RLC had a good game, lost the ball often (they did press him hard though), he seems to lack confidence or something. His size and mobility is good and is no doubt seen as a threat by the opposition, he needs to set up a gear and things could drop into place.
A big test on Wednesday, an excellent forward line who can cheat expertly, well in the eyes of what seems to be ever decreasing competent referee's. Probablly deserving of a post of their own, refs are becoming awful, decisions being made from what they hear, not what they see. The VAR backup is actually worse a lot of the time.

Tonight's game Spurs at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, ko at 6pm and live on Amazon Prime.
There are still doubts of this game going ahead as we have positive Covid-19 cases, we await further test results and news to this effect.
Scott advised that we only have wear and tear of the players, no new injuries, he didn't mention anything about virus test results.
If we can continue with our solid defence and keep Harry and co quiet we can get a result. I do fear they will get a penalty (or 2), as they drop to the floor quicker than most.
If we get a point here we are certainly improving, we will need to get our final passes working though.

Two hours before KO Tottenham v Fulham
PL confirm postponement: "Fulham lodged a request to rearrange the fixture following a significant rise in positive COVID-19 cases, as well as a number of players showing symptoms today." Adds that the Fulham group will be retested "immediately"

Our game v Burnley has been postponed, more covid positive test results for our players and staff.
Hopefully none are having any physical effect, short or long term.

Sounds like we still have problems with the infection numbers increasing.
I'm surprised the premier didn't push us to play youngsters, unless there has been a problem at the training ground.
If this is true, reporting that Mitrovic was at a NYE party with Milivojevic of Palace, together with wives and kids. They have photos, the lot, won't help matters.
Also after what Jose Moanrinho said about being unprofessional after our game was called off, three Tottenham players and families were at a party over the holiday along with a West ham Player. I hope he has a public statement that they were unprofessional as he has been saying about others.

With our next match being the cup game with QPR, I take it we would forfeit the tie if we don't have enough players to play the match?

I'd hope this was the case, we already have 2 EPL games to reschedule.
In the current situation with covid it would be a sensible idea to cancel the FA cup this season.

FA Cup next, QPR at Loftus Road, 3pm ko and live on BBC iPlayer.
I hear Scott will be fielding the strongest team available, with the unplanned winter break it is sensible to keep match fitness. The extent of players who have had to the virus or self-isolating is unknown, but very significant. Players have been returning to training, but again who and how many isn't known, and quiet rightly too. On a more positive note (pun not intended), the last 2 rounds of tests have proven to be negative, so that's ................ good.
It will be revealing who is in the squad for today's game, I'm not guessing on this one.

Some notable absences today, but we got the result and a clean sheet.
I'd hoped Mitro would have got on the score sheet and get the smile back on his face, that said he did a lovely lay-off for BDR opener.
    The darkside next...............

I thought Joe Bryan was brilliant yesterday, has probably been tough for him being out the team, can't really argue with how Robinson has been playing though, but for Bryan to come in and give his all for 120 mins shows what type of player he is. BDR was also great when he came on, took his goal really well. Good to see Kongolo, Tete and Onomah back, I hope Onomah can get into the 25 man Premier League squad, I think he's a really good option to have there, maybe he could take MLM place? We seem to have loads of defenders in the squad, i assume some will leave this month?

Anyway, looking forward to the Chelsea game now. We could be playing them just at the right time, they seem to be going through a bit of a mini crisis at the moment. Plus we've given a good account of ourselves against some of the bigger teams recently anyway, so hopefully keep that up.

With all the changes, think it was a better performance than I expected. Rodak had to make a few good saves, but Fulham dug out the victory needed. Must admit I was still worried when either Hector or Ream started to play the ball around at the back, flash back to the early season. Not sure why some fans have a go at Mitro's performance as being poor and not interested, he's still a main threat to defences and has a few assists to his name in his last few games, needs to build confidence. Reminds me of some fans having a go at Zamora at certain times during his stay. Neither he or Mitrovic have the speed but still did the business when they had the right partner up front with them. The likes of Cavaleiro, Loftus-Cheek, Lookman, Anguissa aren't exactly worrying keepers at the moment and I would think none of them are likely to get near 10 goals this season, which limits our scoring potential.

It would be absolutely ridiculous to keep MLM in the squad (our 7th best CB and 4th best LB) over Onomah, now Onomah is fit.

It was good to see Kongolo and Onomah back, I think both will have some role to play over the remainder of the season.

Our lack of attacking edge is concerning and somehow Parker has to come up with a way to get us goals. I think it may be worth taking a punt on someone like Babel or Sturridge, someone with an eye for goal, at the expense of a depth/utility player like Ream or Odoi.
