He hasn't actually been played in that role and we have to look at the support he didn't have. Personally I would have like to see him alongside Sam Greenwood in a 4-4-2 from the start and play in positions of strength. As it was we had too many in experimental roles out of position which should be done in a practice game, not in an FA Cup game.
Embarrassing it's as simple as that, no flannel about ratings for me the whole bunch where a disgrace, how many times have we been dumped out by lower league teams with abject displays. I think we had spurs pants down with 10mill for Clarke...but oh boy have we been repaid with wolves for Costa coffee, same for Rodrigo makes me wonder how he is Spain's number 9 and for 30 mill well bamford for 7mill is a ****ing steal !!! And that absolute joke that calls himself a GOALkeeper( emphasis on goal) is 100% the worst to ever pull on our shirt, he should be done for fraud. Nearly 50 years since our 1 and only cup success which won't be added to....good luck crawley
Bielsa made the changes at half time to ensure his first team starters for Brighton didn't play the full 90. Struijk, Cooper and Rodrigo will all start vs Brighton. I also think he swapped Phillips and Struijk to have another look at Struijk in midfield after his last couple of efforts there. He obviously thought, as I did, that a team boasting plenty of first team action could handle a league 2 team. They should have done. In the first half we were the better team. When he took the three lads off at half time and replaced them with 2 kids and Harrison up front we were always going to be worse in the second half. I'm more disappointed in the likes of Alioski, Shackleton, Harrison, Costa, Phillips and Kiko who completely failed to take control and drag us through that game. They have plenty of experience but didn't give it a go. At least Hernandez and Raphinha tried to make things happen but you can't carry that many players. The kids looked hopelessly out of their depth and I include Shackleton and Davies especially as this was a good chance to shine and show they are capable of stepping up as senior players. Was a failure all round.
Serious question, which would you rather have and both is not an option 1) good run in the fa cup 2) survival in the first year of the prem Asking for a friend
We are very close to achieving 2 already. No replays in the FA Cup this season either, 6 games if you are lucky enough to reach the final.
Has the Brighton match been brought forward? I ask because I've read on here that the subs were made with an eye on the next fixture coming up. But unless I'm very much mistaken, our next match is on Saturday! So wtf? And as for not having a 'big enough' squad to take on the cup & the league? Really? Not 'good enough' squad would be more accurate, but definitely not 'big enough'. We got beaten & made more sad history. But it's over now, so let's move on. Good players do not become bad players after just 1 match. Some of you want to listen to yourselves. Supporters? Hmmm.....
Just heard that we are signing the plumber guy from Crawley as he said he can mend the leaks in our defence
It was the formation and players out of position that got me amongst a few other things.... 1) Is there anyone who believed before today that Kiko is an adequate reserve? Hands up now?? We don’t need to see him in goal, we’re 10 days into this transfer window, we should have had a number two signed and sealed long ago, if not we should be looking at the U23 keeper. Kiko is a known quantity, he is not good enough, Bielsa showing faith and loyalty to him is beyond a joke. 2) Why didn’t we have someone like Geldhart on the bench, why did we leave ourselves without a striker second half, was Bielsas plan to be winning first half then play the possession game, it was an unforgivable decision, I just couldn’t work it out. If we needed to look at Struijk in midfield why not just drop Phillips, don’t play both we’ve seen Southgate trying to use Phillips with another defensive midfield player it doesn’t work. Several fringe players failed to step up, they failed in the other cup too. Bielsas little finger knows more about football than I could ever dream but some recent decisions are infuriating. How many times do we need to keep witnessing the same mistakes being made, Kiko in goal, set piece failures due to man to man marking. The only thing I can forgive today was Costa being selected, today was the day for him to shine and get some confidence but it didn’t work, he is Championship material at best.
