But anyone who is talented that comes through the Academy will undoubtedly be sold. Unfortunately

And that money could be used to extend the activities of the academy - Bristol City does not run a network of regional development centres like Southampton. Those 20k's x 52 are a lot of scouts and coaches.

And can and have added millions to BCFC finances. Without sales of academy players BCFC would have breeched FFP thresholds.

And that will have to be the Status Quo until we get promoted.

    I agree, unfortunately.
It's all very well people bemoaning the 'selling of the family silver', but footballers, overpaid as they are, only have a short career and if they want to play at the highest level they need to seize the opportunities when they come around.
We all hate this fact, but we haven't seen the top flight since the early 1980s, whereas other teams of similar size - even smaller - have. Bryan and Reid left us and since leaving, both have played in the Prem - one of the biggest footballing stages in the world. Why would they (or anyone) opt to stay with Bristol City in the second tier when they can play in the Premiership?
Arguably, those 2 I mentioned went to clubs that were still in the Championship at the time, but they had premiership pedigree - something that we haven't got - and won't have, until we break through that glass ceiling ourselves.

Not from the Academy but Ayling and Webster are also 'gracing' the Premiership.

Struggling to think of any player from our current squad who'll 'grace' the Premiership.

I think that's the case for a lot of Championship clubs tbh, not just us. Look at Norwich, Puki was a goal-scoring machine in the Championship 2 years ago, but barely had any impact in the Premiership.

Freeman too - got promoted with Sheff U.

Out of our current squad I would say possibly Kalas and Bentley would probably get into a lower table Prem side.
From this season's performance to-date possibly a prem club might take a gamble on Semenyo in the hope he can sort his finishing out.
I can't think of any others to be honest - but before LJ played him as a striker (whether forced, or calculated) I would have happily taken £500k for Reid, so we might have a diamond or 2 in the current squad that hasn't been able to shine yet............

Injury updates ahead of Preston fixture
    Friday, January 15th 2021

Ahead of the game against Preston North End, Head Coach Dean Holden gave an update on some injuries in the City camp.

Kasey Palmer is available for selection on Saturday having served his self-isolation period.

Summer signing Joe Williams is gradually being integrated into first-team training as he continues his recovery from thigh and hamstring injuries.

Nathan Baker is continuing his comeback on the grass, as is Liam Walsh, while Steven Sessegnon is expected to re-join team training by the end of the month.

Jamie Paterson is progressing through his month’s recovery following groin surgery.

Meanwhile, Cameron Pring has suffered a torn hamstring and is being assessed by a specialist to determine the best course of treatment.

All of our current problems are obviously not concerning those at the top of our organisation because if you look at the club's website all you will see is positivity. The following words litter the home page with positives " excited x 2", "pleased x 2" and "striving x 1" and it makes me wonder whether they actually give a rat's arse what the paying public think. Public relations are, strangely enough, about the relationship between the entity and the public, but it becomes clearer by the day that the PR dept at Ashton Gate skipped the classes on that particular subject. Hiding your head in the sand or up your own backside will never get good reviews from the punters that pay good money to watch this apathy from the club they love.

Returned from Portsmouth fit and well and within days becomes another serious injury and yet another hamstring, it's beyond belief, surely even the people at the top of the BCFC pyramid can see some kind of pattern emerging from this latest **** show?

I am sure that the vast majority of our serious injuries have occurred on home soil, either at Ashton Gate or Failand and that should add to the pattern.

Reid and Bryan signed for Cardiff and Fulham the summer they were both both promoted to the Prem.
Freeman signed for Sheff Utd the summer they were promoted.

We need to find a way to get promoted, it’s a catch 22, had we been able to keep our better players as we did last time we were promoted to the top flight I believe by now we’d be promoted, there’s the argument that selling them and reinvesting enables us to improve and stay within FFP, but constantly selling our better players makes it difficult to get promoted, which is the best way, as long as you don’t blow it in an effort to compete in the PL. Get there , take the money and be sensible , that’s the best way to be sustainable.

I agree with that, I was replying to R&W because the way he has worded it or possibly believes it happened. That Reid and Bryan left for championship clubs. But both Cardiff and Fulham was promoted to the prem when they both signed.
Freeman was at QPR but signed for Sheff Utd once they were promoted as well.

You’re right. I hadn’t realised those clubs had already been promoted when they signed.
