Great Old Stadium, when rocking...I doubt a better atmosphere anywhere. I will NEVER forget the 73 cup run match against Man City. Never experienced anything like that in any stadium

    Amazing, brings back great memories.

If you blow that photo up you can just see some away supporters running into the sea <laugh>

Great that. Can't see enough of them. It's like slipping down a wormhole, memories flying about. Thanks for putting it up.

Stood in that a few times, in the promotion game against West Ham in 1980 which we won 2-0 when little Stan scored the second goal I was bodily lifted like a rag doll and drifted across the stand. My mate who I'd been standing next to seconds earlier was pointing towards me as we got further away from each other. I'd felt crowd surges before but my feet were literally off the ground for at least 10 seconds, there was no feeling of anxiety or fear just pure elation.

Sad to see it go but it was falling apart in the end.

I sometimes chuckle to myself wondering how it would've been if they'd just built a bigger exact replica of Roker, with modern infrastructure, on the new site ...

... it would've been absolutely surreal walking in for the first time <laugh>

I wish we could have afforded to keep it for reserve games and maybe unattractive cup games.

There used to be a call and return chant when I started going in the mid 1970s.

Started off with “We hate The Roker” at the Fulwell End
Returned by “The Roker, The Roker” by those in the other end.

Being well brought up I was always in the Roker End. Didn’t want to mix with those rough types in The Fulwell.

Made the Roker End three/four times as high as the original to fit all 23,000 seats in it

You’re very possibly right. To my young brain I might have heard something different.

Ha. I thought the opposite. It was the nutters went in the Roker end (80s) next to the away fans and uncovered. I was fairly safe at the back of the Fulwell end. That noise man just before kick off, second to none.

Only went in the Roker end twice got soaked both times, one memory I love standing in the Fulwell end was watching the sea mist roll over the wall and engulf the ground.
