    That's an inauspicious start.

The Cracksman’s didn’t do too badly in the end:

    9 catalogued
    7 offered
    5 sold
    Top price 95,000
    Lowest price 15,500
    Average 52,900 (2019 stud fee was £25,000)

He’s been cut to £17,500 for 2021 so could be a decent price based on those results, but it’s his tricky third season so he’s in a bit of limbo.

Oops, just realised those stats are only from one day of the sale! Can you tell I’ve not had much coffee yet this morning?!
Once I’ve got the whole sale data I’ll post the foal results for CRACKSMAN and FRANKEL.

Hello chaps, sorry for the absence - been a manic few weeks of work & kids!

Hello chaps, sorry things a bit hectic here at the moment - attempting to work from home and home school a 6 year old!
Just seen that Juddmonte have released some of their mating plans, including the list of 24 of their own mares that will go to Frankel.

Also interesting to see that Midday is off to No Nay Never - attempting to inject a bit of speed!

A bit of an unusual one to watch today: HOME FIRE makes his debut in the bumper at Musselburgh.

A gelding by Frankel, he’s out of Hot Snap - a Pivotal half-sister to Midday! He never saw the track for Juddmonte and was sold as a 3yo at the Goffs UK Spring Sale in 2019 for just £26,000.

Obviously he wasn't setting the gallops alight <ok>

Hope you are keeping well in these trying times? Challenging with two little(ish) ones at the moment - what age are they now? I'd guess about 7 and 3 but my memory is like Swiss cheese I'm afraid.

Almost exactly right! Eldest is currently 6 - she was born Cheltenham week! Youngest will be 4 in April (born Craven week!) It’s interesting times for sure, home schooling the eldest is a real challenge, she’s smart and knows the work but like so many in her class is just so easily distracted and lacking motivation. Thankfully nursery here is still open so the youngest is still attending which is a huge weight off my mind - trying to home school and work from home and keep him entertained almost broke me last time!

Glad to hear it - stay safe <ok>

If I might venture a horse question - we were chatting on a thread the other day about the 7lbs mares allowance for the Champion Hurdle and I was wondering from a physical point of view whether it is justified? What I mean is, are female horses generally considered "inferior" to their male counterparts hence the weight adjustment? If so, is this based on science? With the advent of the mares race at the festival there is of course the argument that it detracts from the Champion Hurdle (i.e. Quevega, Honeysuckle etc should be running in the Champion Hurdle) and I was therefore wondering whether the 7lbs mares allowance is justified.

There’s a lot of debate around the mares allowance! I’d say up to the age of around 4 yes there’s definitely a significant enough size difference between colts and fillies that justifies a weight allowance. After that it becomes more subjective. Of course there will always be outliers of either sex (big strong mares or small delicate geldings/Colts).

One additional arguement for the mares allowance is that it encourages competition. It’s a carrot for those owners who might be prepared to go for glory and take on the boys rather than go the “easier” route of sticking to her own sex.

It’s definitely a discussion that will run for some time yet!
