I can see us wanting to sign both Quintilla and Giannoulis if we go up, as we need two left backs. Quintilla offers a genuinely different defensive role - so for example could be brought off the bench to help protect a lead. He is also not that short, so I could even see him working in a back three with Giannoulis as more of a flying winger, if Farke really wanted to be brave enough to try a new formation which is quite popular...!
Yes I accept payments from sales may be staged, but it is very cheap at the moment to borrow money, so we could if necessary borrow money knowing that we can pay the money back once the staged payments are received. Much better to borrow knowing we are guaranteed to be able to pay the money back in the future rather than gamblin on getting promoted. Without delving into the accounts one of the reason our loss was so great the year we sold Maddison, may have been that not all the staged payments from his sale came in during that years accounts. We need to sell our better players in small batches rather than all at once, so that staged payments filter in regularly. The model requires us to be constantly buying , developing and selling players at a profit. I would have thought the sales of Godfrey & Lewis, the TV money we have coming in and the parachute payments should see us alright for this season. The lack of fans means less money, but there will also be less costs, however the loss for us will be significant. BUT we must remember that compared to all the other clubs that don't have very rich owners we are in a very good place and having put our house in order over the last few years we will be in a much better position should we get promoted than at any point in the recent past. I think you are right to be cautious, but I don't think our prospects financially as quiet as bad as your post implies.
Yes, a different style, though to his credit he has begun to adapt more to our way of playing. The fact remains though, that, in the EPL, pace is essential.
Agree with that, but SW and DF should have been aware of Quintilla's pace when he was signed. He does bring something different to LB, keeping a better balance with Aarons on the right flank. This works best when McLean is in midfield and can cover on the left side when Xavi goes forward. His crossing and corner taking are excellent, which could suit Hugill and Idah well. Giannoulis offers a different option with pace on counterattacks and the ability to cut in to attack. I think we need both and will be disappointed if we were promoted and went with right footers Sørensen or Byram as second option at LB. Makeshift doesn't make it in the PL.
Don't forget we also have Sam McCallum. 19 appearances for Coventry so far this season and playing well from all accounts.
According to the Pinkun, McCallum is seen as a future prospect and as such is more likely to go out on loan if we're promoted. His WhoScored ratings are very high at LB (7.3), but that is based on only 3 appearances there, with the other 16 appearances in midfield positions with lower ratings, except one at RB (7.5). The potential seems to be there, but we need to see more at LB. Given his age, he wouldn't count in the PL's 25 man squad limit, so it's hard to say.
NCFC have put their twitter account into Greek. Presumably the start of the Giannoulis announcement. Michael Bailey thinks his work permit won't come through before the weekend, so won't be involved til Boro at the earliest.
Good job I can read Greek then! Favourite holiday destination and many hours spent in evening classes.
Lots to like about this Giannoulis signing. Considering what we sold his predecessor to the Geordies for, this loan to buy structure sounds like a really good plan. The feedback from PAOK fans sounds really encouraging. Be interesting to see what happens with Quintilla who I think has played really well so far. Two quality LBs both on try before you buy agreements.
My Greek colleague at work who is a die-hard PAOK fan said "You took our MrNoBreaks He is a great left-back, I am sure he will help Norwich!" I'm reading into this as the new three lungs.
Soto has been recalled from Telstar, his work permit for the UK has been approved. Michael Bailey expects him to spend the rest of the season playing for the U23s so Farke can get a look at him. Not sure which squad he'll train with. Omotoye is expected to go out on loan, so Soto takes his spot in the U23s lineup.
That is what I hoped would happen and perhaps some cup games as well. That should allow him to integrate with the other players and settle in the fine city. We could have used him when all 3 strikers were injured.
I plan to have high hopes for this lad. I can already see the Arsenal / Liverpool "itk" transfer tweets when he lights things up here.
If you haven't seen this video on Soto, watch the strikes at 1:25 and 1:45. One left-footed, one right-footed. He's considered to be right-footed.
His record at Telstar speaks volumes - seven goals for Telstar in 12 appearances, eight of them starts. Other than his 2 appearances for USA, that's the highest level he's played at (Telstar are in the Dutch second tier). Playing for our U23s and perhaps some first team appearances would be a good indication of his potential, but he's certainly well thought of in the US.
Can anybody envisage Webber seeking a loan striker to cover Hugill? It would seem that numerous City fans are clamouring for Webber/Farke to do just this.
