Yeah that shows the UK coming down, now.

What do you make of France not closing their borders? Totally irresponsible government who aren't handling it well, at all?

    It's a mistake, that's for sure.

This is an emergency for France and needs action.

The graph, including the UK is frightening.

    https://www.theneweuropean.co.uk/br...matt-hancock-on-coronavirus-normality-6868866

At the latest Downing Street press conference Hancock was asked if he thought the government was guilty of overpromising by suggesting the UK can return to normality by Easter.

The Tory minister said he was “highly confident we’ll get things back to normal by 2022” due to the coronavirus vaccine roll-out.

Speaking from 10 Downing Street, the Prime Minister said we are no longer resting on the hope the UK will be back to normal by spring, but now "sure and certain" in the "knowledge we will succeed".

In addition to fines , they should also use electronic tags on rule breakers like this and keep them in their own doors altogether

I didn't use to be a fan of Piers Morgan but he is giving the government it with both barrels. When DWP Minister Therese Coffey refused to answer why Britain has the highest death rate, he pushed the point again and again until she had a hissy fit and turned off her "zoom call" and ended the interview there and then. Anybody would think they had something to hide.

This is life in France at the moment.

I have to print off a form giving time, purpose and duration of my trip ...

... it's strictly essential to the point whereby only one person is allowed for food shopping.

We all have to be indoors by 6pm so shops, etc are closing at 5.30. The police are patrolling the streets and stopping everyone.

The old lady who looks after the village church says it was much better under Nazi occupation <laugh>

Is it working? Does France have a better ratio of population/deaths than us...?

The countries that have a tough lockdowm backed by laws/penalties seem to have done better?

Bonko et al lost all credibility when his sidekick was not fined/jailed... or now nutcases like Corbyn's brother and the various parties young(raves)/oldies Jewish weddings.

The message here has been much clearer and there's many thousands less deaths for a similar population.

They've made mistakes but haven't had anything like the PM shaking hands, unmasked, on Covid wards or top advisors 'testing their eyes' hundreds of miles from home.

As a result people are more complicit in following the rules.

As a guess I'd say the current death rate, per head of population, is a third of the UK ...

... I haven't studied the figures so don't know why that's the case.

How's the vaccine roll out going, I'm sure I read the French government were meeting a fair bit of resistance to it

    They're struggling with that, too...

France's boast of a big, effective state apparatus has been badly exposed by the sluggish start to the Covid vaccination programme. After the first week, when neighbouring Germany had inoculated around 250,000 people, France was on a mere 530. By Friday, the figure had gone up to 45,500 - still so small as to be statistically meaningless.

So why has it taken so long for France to put the plan into action? It is not as if the authorities did not have time to prepare. And it is certainly not a question of a lack of vaccine. In fact, more than a million Pfizer doses are already in cold storage, waiting to be used.

It's pretty much the same as the UK from what I can gather.

There's a percentage who aren't keen on the vaccine in the predominantly 'North African' areas.

Elsewhere it's 100%, as it is here, hence the reason I'm struggling to get one.

That said the total death rate is much better than the UK and the current deaths around 30% of the Uk.

this is in German but just watch the pictures, the vaccines were only ordered by the government last week, so far the only ones to be vaccinated are government officials, MPs and their families. Germany has made a dogs cock of the virus and are massaging the figures so they look good on the world stage

Isn't that death total half of the UK with a much bigger population?

So the bbc article was mainly speculation?

If so, then another reason why be there needs to be serious against the british media
