    Thursday 28th January 8pm
    Premier League
    Tottenham Hotspur Stadium

Progress in the FA Cup came late against Wycombe, but the important thing is that it did come.
Now we're back to the league and we've had a bit of a gap, which is unusual for this season.
It will have been 11 days since we won in Sheffield and plenty can happen in that time.
A number of our first XI were required to come on in the cup and some were entirely absent.
Can Mourinho put together a side that can beat the disjointed Scousers or will Klopp get the best of him again?

Liverpool won the league at a canter last time and the signs looked good for a repeat until recently.
They hit the top of the table after their late winner against us in December and followed it up against Palace.
Scoring 7 at Selhurst Park kept them top at Christmas and sent out a signal to the rest of the division.
Signs looked ominous for their next two opponents, the struggling West Brom and Newcastle.
They haven't won since, drawing 3, losing 2 and scoring only once.

Their solitary bright spark in that run was a 4-1 victory at Villa Park in the FA Cup.
That too was overshadowed by the spectre of COVID, as the hosts were missing most of their players.
It somewhat mirrored the cup meeting between the two sides last season.
Liverpool were the team forced to pick youngsters that time and the scoreline was similarly one-sided.
Any positivity from this result was wiped out on the weekend, as they crashed out to Man Utd, of all teams.

This fixture last year saw a depleted side narrowly edged out, after some controversial refereeing.
Firmino gave them a fairly early lead, though VAR failed notice the ball hitting Henderson's arm in the buildup.
The visitors had most of the possession, but opportunities were fairly evenly split and it remained tight.
A reckless Robertson tackle on debutant Tanganga also went unpunished, as VAR again went missing.
Son's shooting boots also went missing late on, as both he and Lo Celso had great chances to level:

The match at their place in December ended with (you guessed it) more controversy.
We set up to play on the counter and it largely worked, until Salah's shot deflected in off Dier.
Son quickly equalised on the break and things went in level at the break.
They continued to dominate possession, but Bergwijn and Kane spurned glorious chances to put us ahead.
Firmino stole the points for them in injury time, putting away a free header after Dier was fouled:

Lo Celso and Alli are still out and Mourinho has said that we have other problems, but not named the players.
Jota, Keita, Gomez and van Dijk are out for the visitors, while Matip and Henderson face tests.
    Neither side has any suspensions.

Lineups for each side's last league game:

Spurs: Lloris; Davies, Dier, Rodon; Aurier, Hojbjerg, Ndombele, Reguilon; Bergwijn, Kane, Son.
Subs: Hart, Sanchez, Alderweireld, Fernandes, Sissoko, Bale, Lamela, Moura, Vinicius.
    League form: LLDWDW.

Liverpool: Alisson; Alexander-Arnold, Henderson, Fabinho, Robertson; Shaqiri, Thiago, Wijnaldum; Salah, Firmino, Mane.
Subs: Kelleher, N. Williams, R. Williams, Phillips, Jones, Milner, Oxlade-Chamberlain, Minamino, Origi.
    League form: WDDLLD.

Ref: Martin Atkinson. VAR: Jonathan Moss.

    TV: BT Sport 1.

How would you like to line up for this one and what would you change from the Wycombe game?
Would you stick with much of the same lineup, make a few changes or go for a wholesale switch?
Which system and tactics would you use and what are you expecting Liverpool to go with?

Jose saying we have injury problems but not being specific is worrying. Pics showed plenty of the big names training today, Hojbjerg, Kane, Sonny, Lloris. Aurier too so my initial thought that it might be a RB issue is unfounded.

In "season compass" terms, any result that is a non-loss is a bonus,
and a 1-0 loss is "zero sum" .

However, right now this game is must-win, in order to keep the
gap to the top two manageable, Therefore IMHO tis the defining game
of the PL campaign, and will tell you everything you need to know
about the nous and control of the manager, and the belief/will in the squad.

No excuses now for any of the personnel who affect the result on the pitch ...

Lots saying they haven’t seen Reggie or Davies train so I’d imagine LB is gonna be where the injury is.

    Hoping to see:

    Hugo
Aurier, Rodon, **** CB 1, Tanganga? (if LBs are out)
    Sissoko, Hojbjerg, Tanguy
    Bale, Kane, Son

Think Bergwijn will start though and we may play 343 with Sissoko dropped for **** CB 2.

Great, we finally sell Anthony Georgiou, and just as he goes we find ourselves in desperate need of somebody who can play LB...

It's a problem exacerbated by the fact that we have 5 CBs and none of them are left footed.

Some of Jan's best (and tbh worst - but that Dortmund game made up for them) performances were when he filled in at LB for us. Granted, he had experience playing there due to his role with Belgium, but simply having a player who isn't going to struggle when in possession is a huge plus.
