It’s only a matter of time before the extra time against Everton will take its toll if we continue to give the ball away and remain out of possession. Fatigue is going to lead to more mistakes.
as things stand, we just need some players who are capable of playing a pass. We look completely intimidated and devoid of any sort of plan.
He's giving me flashbacks to that FA Cup game in the snow, where he got everything wrong and VAR took forever on every decision.
I think it was a penalty, I’d 100% be calling for it if Kane/ Son had been done like that in their box. Hojbjerg’s performances have really dropped the last few games, hardly surprising though considering the amount of football he’s playing. You only have to look at Pool’s FBs to see what overplaying players does as they’ve both been **** for Pool of late, Hojbjerg has been the same for Spurs. Not really sure what to make of the game. We’d be going in 0-0 if it weren’t for the penalty but we’ve shown very little ambition when we’ve had the ball, too many are giving it back to City the moment we’ve won it. Don’t like playing three wingers and using one as a makeshift number ten, it just doesn’t work and those three don’t work well enough together either. None of them have the ability to make something from nothing like a proper playmaker can, I’d look at getting one off and shoving Ndombele further up with Sissoko coming and dropping in with Hojbjerg.
Really not impressed with Lucas (again). We are holding our own, apart from the penalty. There was no foul but it was contact and you really need to avoid contact in the penalty area these days. We can still win.
You’re still in this (for now). A questionable penalty, which Lloris should have saved, is what’s separating the two sides and City haven’t exactly created an abundance of chances. You looked quite threatening on the counter in the opening 25 mins but the penalty seemed to blow the wind out of your sails and you’ve been quite careless when City turnover possession ever since. Equally, you’ve been giving the ball away in dangerous areas too much. As you’d expect, City looking quite vulnerable on the flanks and aren’t fast enough to get back into position as they’re pressing so high. We’ll have to see if you have the legs in the second-half, or whether the 120 minutes in Merseyside will begin to take its toll, but if you can withstand a bit more pressure, there are opportunities for you on the counter. City aren’t impenetrable.
Just seen the penalty again and it is definitely Gundogan making contact with PEH.Disgraceful decision
I'd stick Alli on for Lamela, as we need to be positive to get something from the game and they'll be looking to get him sent off. Get Moura wide so he can use his pace in space and not keep running into crowds in the middle.
A goal for us in this game is massive. We’ve not got a bad record against city over the last 5 years, including a CL knock out, and psychologically it could be enough to swing things. - they’ll also be conscious of the 2-0 defeat earlier in the season. We just can’t afford any more stupid mistakes and need to take our chances.
