Good to see Reggie back, thought Bale did enough the other day to get a start today, but other than that its probably just about our best side
Jose is so conservative with his team selection. He has missed the opportunity to capitalise on Bales good feeling from the previous game.
Lloris Tanganga Sanchez Dier Reg Hojbjerg Tanguy Lucas Lamela Son Kane Sanchez against Antonio makes me queasy. Shame that Bale is dropped to the bench after his impact on Thurs. Bergwijn isn't even in the squad which is telling, unless he picked up a knock?
Reg being back is good. That attacking front has the ability to run the Spanner defence ragged and on the back foot, IF they play to the strengths.
Best pray they don’t get a corner or set piece, Soucek will murder Dier and Sanchez in the air once he realises how awful their positioning/ awareness is.
He's bodied Antonio a few times in the past. I just want to see some consistency in the defensive selection so we can play some defenders into form. Pleased with the line up, it's pretty attacking on paper at least.
Really is so frustrating looking at that lineup, though by now it’s just not a surprise either. It’s that graft over quality mentality as per usual.
I'd have picked Toby over Dier and Bale over Lucas/Lamela, but aside from that I'm relatively pleased. Really hope Tanganga impresses and merits a run in the side. Injury has disrupted his progress but we saw glimpses of real quality last year. Excellent to have Reggie back - we've missed him sorely. Winks/Sissoko nowhere near the starting line-up again, which is a big shift and something I have to give Jose credit for finally accepting. My worry is Lamela and Lucas. They impress against weaker teams but against stronger opposition huff and puff but contribute very little other than winning free kicks (Lucas) or giving them away (Lamela).
No league titles maybe, but we have some silverware in that time and the last decade in or on the fringes of the CL. Think most Wolves fans would consider that an improvement of what they've gone though over the last few decades?
Not sure credit should be given for rectifying a glaringly obvious weakness so I won’t praise him for acknowledging Winks and Sissoko are turd. I’d also have Toby over Dier, he’s the least **** of the three senior CBs, doesn’t say much but the fact the weaker two are selected above him is pretty funny. Rodon seems to have had his 5 mins and is now back in the abyss (unless injured, which hasn’t been mentioned) so that’ll no doubt help his improvement. Lucas and Lamela need a big performance. I’d love for that to come today but I can’t say I’m too hopeful based on what they’ve churned out in the Prem over the last couple years. A goal and assist between them in the league this season, both coming from Lucas - against Newcastle and WBA respectively.
Another effing commentary with Alan Smith. You telling me there is NO Spurs/Spanner associated commentator on the book anywhere ??
One thing about Toby playing that needs mentioning, part of the problem in the last game against this lot was Toby and Sanchez kept swapping positions (which is weird enough in itself) and that's what led to Sanchez's OG, because the clearing header he played is exactly the one he should have played as the RCB - the problem was he was the LCB at the time, so instead he scored a diving header that Harry Kane would've been prod of...if it was at the other end of the pitch
