Swansea City v Coventry City Competition - Sky Bet Championship Venue - The Liberty Stadium Date - 24 February 2021 Kick off - 19.00 Following their surprise 1-4 hammering away to Huddersfield, next up for Steve Cooper’s somewhat shell shocked squad is a home match against a cock-a-hoop Coventry City who are fresh from beating promotion chasing Brentford. On Saturday, Huddersfield blew away an out-of-sorts Swansea 4-1 at the John Smith's Stadium. The Terriers notched three goals in the space of seven second-half minutes as they sealed a much-needed first win of 2021. The result eased the pressure on Town boss Carlos Corberan, whose side are now seven points clear of the relegation places. As for Swansea, they missed a huge opportunity to make ground on second-placed Brentford. Nevertheless, Steve Cooper's side still have two games in hand on the Bees and Watford in third. Earlier on Saturday, Coventry ended a five-game winless run as they condemned Championship promotion chasers Brentford to a third straight defeat. The loss means Brentford, who had gone 21 games without defeat prior to being beaten at home by Barnsley last Sunday, have now lost three times in six days. The hosts took the lead through Tyler Walker from the penalty spot after Maxime Biamou was fouled by Rico Henry in the corner of the box. They went two up after the break as Walker notched his second with a neat turn and finish inside the box after Coventry had pounced on a loose goal-kick by Bees keeper David Raya. The Swans have played Coventry on 31 previous occasions, winning 9, drawing 9 and losing 13. The teams last met in a Championship fixture at the Liberty on 14 September 2010 when the Swans survived a Coventry fight-back to win 2-1. Darren Pratley met Mark Gower's corner with a close-range header into an empty net for the Liberty Stadium opener. Substitute Martin Cranie's blunder then let in Pratley, whose shot struck the post but rebounded to Scott Sinclair for an easy finish from six yards. Lukas Jutkiewicz had a shot cleared by Garry Monk, the resultant Sammy Clingan corner lashed in by Ben Turner for the Coventry goal, but the Swans held on. In this season’s reverse fixture played at St Andrew’s in October, the teams played out an entertaining 1-1 draw: Turning to Wednesday, it is essential that the Swans put Saturday’s thumping behind them and immediately return to winning ways. However, they will be up against a buoyant Sky Blues team that will be keen to capitalise on any self-doubt that the Swans’ players may display. Whilst I’m hoping for a 2-0 home win, I have a feeling that the match will end as a 1-1 draw.
I’m putting yesterday’s result down to a bad day at the office, and a wake up call we needed after a poor performance versus Forest. So I’m expecting a changed side to freshen things up and put a ginger in our belly, so back to winning ways 2-0 Swans for me.
Thanks Taff....we beat Forest playing badly, we lost to Huddersfield playing worse so I am hoping that clueless puts a team out against Coventry that want to play well enough to win for themselves and the fans too....Smith in for Grimes and Whitaker in for Lowe please...two nil Swans
Thanks Taff. I would love us to bounce back with a win but unless he sorts the midfield issues out then its 1-1 for me
The only good thing about that last game was the write up by Taff. Hope I won't have to put on my 3 bloody masks.
Andy Woolmer has been appointed to referee the Swansea City v Coventry City Championship game on Wednesday, 24 February 2021. please log in to view this image Woolmer will be assisted by Lee Venamore and Nick Greenhalgh, with John Busby the 4th Official for the game. Steve Cooper has made his feelings on the referee well known even before that game, having contacted the FA directly about the official in light of his performance in the goalless draw with QPR in February 2020. Unfortunately, the Swans don’t appear to be popular with Woolmer, given his controversial decision to disallow Kasey Palmer’s overhead kick against Sheffield Wednesday back in November.
He will either carry on being a bit of a quim , reading from the book of Mike Dean book of refereeing or surprise Mr Cooper with a splendid example of unbiased clear decisive decision making ,after the Managers comments I suspect the former
I suspect he will be determined to make sure that no one will be able to say that Cooper’s comments made him sub-consciously favour the Swans - so he will be consciously biased against us.... again
I think you've also got Bennett missing from CB, so I'll be happy with 1-1 but would be cool with a 1-0 win. (to Cov)
Gyokeres will sadly keep the curse going, Woolmer will give us no favours, will be happy with a draw. If we don’t turn up again, a draw will be a tall order!
Pretty confident that you boys will get the points tonight and will be joining us back in the top flight in a couple of months. The Bees have blown up. Good luck lads.
It's the time of year when teams are getting tired and suffer mini slumps. When I say 'slump' we only lost one game, albeit rather heavily. Still lots of games to be played, lots of points there to be won, or lost. The last two games have seen sub-standard performances by our usual higher standards and hoping that can be rectified tonight. Not going to predict a score for tonight. Oh, all right then. 1-1.
