    You pronounce the "h", so it would be "a hypocrite" not "an hypocrite".

    Because they are idiots. The same as the idiots who say "an hypocrite".

    Another example is if you were speaking about the singular of £100 notes. In the written form people would think because it starts with a vowel it would be "an". Not the case as "one" is pronounced like the consonant "w" so it would be "a one hundred pound note" not "an one hundred pound note".

    Not wonder this site has won many awards and it just goes to show that learning can be fun <ok>

    That also annoys me. I am not fond of people saying airplane instead of aeroplane either.
