Only 9 games left. Stoke, on 30 points, can
only muster a grand total of 57. So 6 wins will do it, but I expect it to be fewer.

Edmondson has got himself back in Northampton starting line up and played 90 mins in a 0-0 draw.

Robbie Gotts played 90 for Salford and got an assist in a 2-1 defeat.

McCalmont played on the left of the diamond for Oldham in a 1-0 defeat. Regularly playing 90 minutes now.

Stevens was brought off the bench for 15 minutes for Bradford.

Gotts is the one who seems to be excelling out on loan in this country. He has been excellent for Salford.

1pm today we are down at Crystal Palace and then in Friday we are down at Wolves for the rearranged match from January’s frozen pitch.

Be interesting to see who plays today and Friday, will we see any first teamers coming back. Will we see some great performances from kids demanding to play for the first team next season

Good to see Berardi starting and Poveda will get some minutes in the second half. Joffy starting Nohan Kenneh in the bench but no Sam Greenwood yet

Joe Urquhart (@JoeUrquhart_) Tweeted: Leeds United Under-23s v Crystal Palace (1pm KO): Caprile, Huggins, Davis, Casey, Berardi, Drameh, Summerville, Jenkins, Gelhardt, McKinstry, McCarron. #lufc

Yeah Palace are wanting to charge so we dont have any pictures so far. Gelhardt playing well, Drameh really catching the eye and Summerville scaring them to death but has been sent off and Jacko cannot believe the ref has done that. A 2nd yellow and hasnt deserved 1 yellow?

30 minutes gone and Gelhardt has forced a great save from the Palace keeper and has also just hit the post with a free kick. Match pretty even so far because we are down to 10 men. Caprile making some decent saves too

Half time 0-0 but the last ten minutes we’ve been second best, so Jacko needs to sort this out and reorganise things for the second half. According to my info Gelhardt is running rings around Palace and unlucky not to have scored a couple. However Caprile in goal is having work to do and Drameh s working hard at RB and trying to cover for Summerville in the right wing. Jack Jenkins seems to have his hands full and defending well

Still 1-0 down but trying which is tough with 10 men for the whole game. We have forced a couple if corners but need a goal and wonder why Joffy was taken off at half time when he really is needed. Bielsa must want him fit and ready for the first team, but we have another 23 game Friday?

Kenneh goes down in the box trying to get on the end of a cross, penalty waved away

palace go down the other end and score. Its all over

    Palace 2-0 Leeds

Seems to me that we were up against it all afternoon with the ref who booked Summerville really early on for not being back 10 yards then immediately booked him again for tackling correctly. We were then on the back foot especially when Gelhardt was taken off although the kids fought and fought they got nothing out of the game it was a defensive battle and not pretty but in the last 20 minutes Leeds were close, very close and maybe should have had a penalty

So no 10 wins on the bounce but still well ahead at the top of the league

Just seen the player ratings for todays game, which was published in Leeds Live. Standout performers were:

Davies who played the whole match and was the main attacking threat once Gelhardt was replaced. He defended well too.

Drameh was excellent yet again and had to be the defender today once his sidekick Summerville was sent off. He was immense.

Gelhardt only played 45 minutes but he was different class on the pitch when it comes to strikers. Unlucky not to score and was even rugby tackled to stop him yet the defender stayed on the pitch?

Casey was top again and saved a certain goal

Kenneh only played the last half hour but was robbed of an equaliser and was solid in defence

Lowest score was 6.5 for Summerville but he was only on the pitch 20 minutes. We lost 2-0 but everyone worked hardwhich shows the difference to Saturday when nobody scored more than 5 marks and we only got beat 1-0

Losing can be just as important as winning for the kids. They will face defeats many times in their future careers, so have to learn to deal with it early doors - especially when they feel it's unjust. Sounds like Sommerville will also have to deal with his questionable sending off from a dodgy ref. He's going to have to get used to dodgy refs, as we seem to attract them without trying. At least VAR tempers them in the PL, unlike the basturds who clearly just didn't like us in the Championship & acted out boyhood fantasies with their whistles as they couldn't with their boots.

Hoping that Geldhardt's substitution indicates he'll be getting some game time. Surely can't be any worse than Roberts, can he, @Jammy 07 ? <whistle>

    Interesting thing about Refs.

Yesterday was searching for some info about the throw in law, as it's always baffled me why in junior/youth football they give so many foul throws. Anyway, happened across a forum for referees and there was a thread about throw ins. After 5 pages of debate, they still couldn't really decide exactly what constitutes a foul throw and a lot of chat about an ugly throw doesn't mean a foul throw.

For the record it's Law 15; which states the ball must be delivered from behind and above the head....nothing about point of release or one continuous motion.

    Anyway I digress...my point is,

Some of the stuff on there was extremely illuminating and went a long way to explaining why when they get it wrong it doesn't matter, at least not to them. What does seem to matter is having their authority challenged and stopping that at all costs.

All amateur refs these by the way and loads of different topics.

One of my early bosses used to be a ref. He told me that refs operating in high status leagues have it easy.

To explain, he mentioned one match he refereed, which was one shipyard versus another (in the 70s). There was a crowd of over 2000, all along the touchlines, mostly guys coming off shift, & armed with the worryingly safe but deadly steel toe-capped boots. He was terrified, & literally got chased by the crowd to their changing hut 'cos he made a decision that didn't suit the home team. Spent a few hours in that hut until the police managed to clear the crowd.

To this day, he has no idea who called the cops, as there were no mobile phones then, & they weren't particularly near any office block. He was eternally grateful, & you'd think that this & various other similar situations would have put him off refereeing. It didn't - a dedicated amateur ref who rolled with the punches. Can't imagine referees putting up with that these days.
