EL draw (last 16) . The participants are : AC Milan (ITA) Ajax (NED) Arsenal (ENG) Dinamo Zagreb (CRO) Dynamo Kyiv (UKR) Granada (ESP) Manchester United (ENG) Molde (NOR) Olympiacos (GRE) Rangers (SCO) Roma (ITA) Shakhtar Donetsk (UKR) Slavia Praha (CZE) Tottenham (ENG) Villarreal (ESP) Young Boys (SUI) Some old "friends" of Spurs in there. EL ties (last 16) : - Ajax vs Young Boys - Kyiv vs Villarreal - Roma vs Donetsk - Olympiakos vs Arsenal - Zagreb vs Spurs - Man Utd vs AC Milan - Slavia Praha vs Rangers - Grenada vs Molde
Could be worse for Spurs. At least the away tie is first (wherever it will be) . IMHO the current EL squad mainstays can get us thru this to the QFs,
Alternatively, the Niko Kranjcar/Vedran Corluka Derby Or, if we lose, the Marcelo Brozovic/Dani Olmo/Mateo Kovacic/Milan Badelj Derby...
If the decision as to which of Spurs and the Goons had their fixtures reversed was not done on a fair coin toss, f**k UEFA.
It was based on Arsenal qualifying by winning the FA Cup and us doing it via the league. I think that they ranked it FA Cup, League Cup, League placement, which is why the last one had to go into the qualifiers.
Updated main article with links to info on prize monies for the tournaments (in response to related debate currently going on elsewhere) .
Seems like more protection for the big clubs, no? Gets rid of the unease after an underdog dares to actually try and score at the Camp Nou, or whatever.
A few years back we beat inter (I think) on away goals after losing the second leg 4-1 in extra time. There was a near outcry in the media and online about how unfair it was cos we had an extra 30 mins to score an away goal. 2 years ago there was moaning that we knocked out City and Ajax (less so in that match) on away goals. In the cold light of day no one really cared. I suspect most clubs in Europe could point to similar incidents. I agree with you and suspect both @The Huddlefro and @bigsmithy9 are also close to the truth
I went to Portugal years ago to watch Spurs. We were 2-0 down.Up stepped Chivers to score direct from a free kick......and we were through to the next round. It seems idiots can't leave the game alone.Got to find something to bugger it up! WHY????
I did like the way the United got rid of their medals as they walked away. Did they think it would be a United walk over? Tough!
The only one that didn't was Cavani, who showed some respect for his opposition and the competition. You can do that when you get away from the cameras. It's just bad sportsmanship and virtue signalling to do it immediately on the podium.
Pepsodent for Pep? Choked I guess. Had to be 1-0 either way didn't it? Actually,I wanted both to lose.Hurricane? Tsunami? Earthquake? Not fussy!
20 man brawl which sees both teams booted out of the competition for the next three years? Let's see how ambitious their owners are then...
