Was just reading Pompey twitter and the majority of them want us to win Hoping Jackett lasts until Tuesday. We really should be smashing these, I’ll be very disappointed if we don’t win.
The Sunderland team that lost using Parkyball at the SOL is not the Lejohn of light that will be playing on Tuesday night - the whole persona of the club has changed since KLD took over. Portsmouth will try to push our left midfield & defence because the world and his dog know that is our big weakness. Make no mistake Tuesday is a big game for them, with players eying a Wembley medal too. On the night though, both managers will be entirely focused on the league position so I can see them bringing the game to us and I'm looking forward to a cracking game. I am going for us to take an early lead and a quick second before our cursed left back area gift them a goal going in at HT 1-2. We concede another soft goal early in the second half but score quickly ourselves to restore our lead and finishing with another late goal to run out 2-4 winners.
Biggest game in 2 years. Nervous already. They won’t be as bad as they were on Saturday and I’m sure they will raise their game anyway. I feel like if we win this we’re set for automatic promotion.
Tuesday is the night when everything changes. Tuesday is the night when things move up a gear. Tuesday is the night when the other teams around us suddenly start to realise that we are a juggernaut heading into the closing stages of the season. This is when all the other teams around us will begin to fear us. After a few good results without playing at our best this is when we turn it on and produce a display similar to that of Lincoln / Doncaster. 3-0 (Wyke 2, Jones)
Northampton are in danger of being relegated but absolutely destroyed Portsmouth who had 3 on target efforts and a single corner. Jackett is in his fourth season trying to get them promoted and it's all falling apart again. So, FFS, let's not believe this match is any bigger than any other ... ... let's just do a professional job, ignore the previous hype and come back with another win. Portsmouth used to be our rivals, they're not worth that title these days ... ... just another poor team that we can take three points off.
I can't see any other result, other than you guys smashing us tbh. Pompey have given up it seems. 5-1 for -1 Sunderland is a very fair price.
Interesting. Although with both sets of players having one eye on Wembley, rightly or wrongly, I suspect this may be a fairly tame affair. We're not Brazil and definitely still have some cock-ups in us. I've predicted a draw and will settle for that if that's the way it is. A win is a bonus, a defeat isn't the end of the world at this stage.
If Salford win on Saturday, they'll only hold the trophy for 24 hours, that must be a record? Good luck to you.
I've been to Wembley loads of times with Sunderland but the Portsmouth supporters were the worst I've ever witnessed, absolutely shameful ... ... I'd be pleased if I never had to see them again.
If you haven't heard I'm amazed mate. Loads of them were coked up and picking fights with ordinary supporters, they had children in tears on the tube and on the streets. The first thing we saw, coming out of Baker Street station for The Globe pub was Portsmouth hooligans, without any colours, shouting 'Dirty Norvern scum' at a Sunderland family crossing the road. At first we thought the Sunderland people must've said something but it happened all day. They kept it up until they tried it on Wembley Way and calmed down when the Sunderland people turned and started putting them on their arse. The Sunderland 'lads' had made it clear they'd be at Kings Cross if any of the Portsmouth hard lads wanted to see them but no one went near. Millwall, at the FA Cup semi-final, we're bad but only fought with other lads ... ... Portsmouth were having a go at ordinary people in Sunderland colours.
Same here mate, all my visits to Wembley were amicable between both sets of supporters, apart from Pompey. Not painting them all with the same brush, but unfortunately the ones I came across were not very pleasant at all.
