He’s terribly unpopular with your demographic. I hope he does something about it.

Totally mate, pretty much how I see it and definitely makes sense.
I just get frustrated and a little bit angry at the whole hypocrisy of it all and how one life is seemingly more worthy of the headlines than another.......it’s just plain wrong.

To be honest I think he’s pretty unpopular with quite a few people......but seems to pander to those who he needs. A slimy politician who’s just there for votes.

Some things sell and some don’t. Maddie McCann got infinitely more coverage and far more sympathy for the parents than if it were the child of two poor and/or non-white people. It doesn’t have to make other murders less meaningful.

It shouldn’t make them less meaningful of course.....but in my opinion it really does. The McCann case is totally where I’m coming from.......

Unsurprisingly we'll now be treated to more of this as a bandwagon will start rolling...

But not the hundreds showing their outrage with speeches etc...?
Doesn’t that kind of emphasise my point Beth ?

Stainsey...this is actually an unusual murder....and I am not minimising any other murder, all are terrible....

But Sarahs murder is unusual...taken off the fairly busy streets by a police officer.

It is very unusual...like serial killers or Sarah Lampugh or Jill Dando.

I am afraid county lines murders are becoming shockingly common.

That doesn't stop me grieving for each of them and as a mum I feel for their mothers, their families.

I am not looking for an argument either, and their will be no winners in this...but feel I need to do something about this ...when I can

'Divide & Rule', emergency services now at odds with each other is in no one's best interests, although the FBU appear to have become an extension of Momentum...

Again you’ve made my point far better than I did......because it’s ‘unusual’....because a police officer did it.....then that’s why it seems more worthy of protest and we are somewhat desensitised to the other types of murder I’ve mentioned.
Sorry but In my eyes...that’s just plain wrong..

Definitely no arguments.....it’s a good debate and I’m really enjoying it. Shame I’ve gotta get out to work in a minute...will try to look in later

I won’t go into it too much but there have been similar things going on between other emergency services during the BLM protests.....it sickened and disgusted me at the time but I love my job and said nothing.

The ‘defund the police’ signs are already there.
Seems it’s yet again turning into an ‘anti police’ protest, rather than a protest against the death of a young lady.....can’t say I’m suprised

No, Nish Kumar’s Mash Report hasn’t been ‘cancelled’

It’s not been a good year for any of us. But it certainly hasn’t been a good year for Nish Kumar, alleged comedian and voice of perma-smug Britain. Last year, sensing a gap in the market for anti-Trump material, Kumar tried to break America with a topical Daily Show-style show hosted on some weird new streaming service called Quibi, only for it to shut down six months later. Now The Mash Report, the primetime BBC Two Daily Show-style topical show he fronted four four series, has been axed.

Even among the politically monochrome BBC comedy stable, The Mash Report broke new ground for liberal sanctimony and woke hectoring. It was the epitome of ‘clapter’ comedy, sparking amused applause rather than gut laughter. It was comedy that only works if you agree with the sentiment being expressed, and even then isn’t actually funny. Kumar and co-host Rachel Parris’ passive-aggressive monologues about Brexit and #MeToo became viral sensations, but the show had sluggish ratings from the start. It is yet another reminder that Twitter is not Britain.

The Mash Report’s demise has been written up as part of new BBC director general Tim Davie’s ‘war on woke’. Which suits him well, given that he seems keen to create the impression he is trying to bring more political balance to BBC comedy without actually doing much. Now he can gain some credit with the right-wing press by ditching a not particularly popular show. Those trying to suggest The Mash Report has been ‘cancelled’, in the newer sense of the word, should remember there’s a difference between ‘no platform’ and ‘no audience’.

That BBC comedy is dominated by woke liberals is beyond question. But that isn’t really what makes it so terrible. The issue is that these shows are profoundly unfunny. Somewhere along the line virtue-signalling has replaced wit, saying the ‘right’ thing has replaced pushing boundaries, and shouting ‘the Daily Mail!’ has replaced trying to think of an actual punchline.

The Mash Report was all of this and then some. In response to the show’s canning, Kumar has
tweeted a pic of him from the show gesturing to a graphic that reads ‘BORIS JOHNSON IS A LIAR AND A RACIST’. Which is basically his comedy, such as it is, summed up.

Among the show’s only saving graces were periodic appearances by the right-leaning, pro-Brexit comic Geoff Norcott, one of the best British stand-ups working today. That he was explicitly brought on as a kind of ordinary people correspondent was telling. But he introduced a much needed bit of tension, and his ability to land jokes needling liberals in front of an overwhelmingly liberal audience reminded us you don’t need to agree with someone politically to find them funny.

The BBC says The Mash Report's departure is going ‘to make room for new comedy shows’. Here’s hoping an actual comedy show, as opposed to whatever this was, replaces it.

I am so against this defund the coppers stance.
This is not individual coppers on the beat thinking " I am going to shove and push that girl over there who is protesting about a girl being murdered"

It is about the powers that be telling the bobbies on the beat to take action against protests and protestors...
That all protests must be stopped " because of Covid" or " because they are political activists" or because " we don't like their views, colour if their skin, their gender"

    This is political.

Yes there are good coppers, bad coppers, and murderous coppers...but the huge majority are good coppers doing their best.

Don't forget the police have been underfunded for the last decade.

An excellent unbiased piece. Unsigned, sadly.
