Town Takeover Stalls Monday, 15th Mar 2021 17:03 TWTD understands that as things stand the proposed US-backed takeover of the Blues is off. As previously reported, a consortium led by former West Brom chief executive officer and Oxford board member Mike O’Leary and co-owners of USL club Phoenix Rising including Brett Johnson was looking to buy the Blues from current owner Marcus Evans in a £30 million deal. However, we understand the move, which had made significant progress with the EFL involved and Land Registry priority searches in place regarding the training ground, has now stalled and while not yet dead appears much less likely to go through that it did than when the news first broke in late February. Owner Marcus Evans has consistently played down the prospect of a deal being done having said earlier this month that he has received no offer which is "currently acceptable to me or the club”. FFS!!!!
Surely the obvious reason is that we have a chance of promotion, therefore holding out for more. Can't blame him really
I agree Evans probably holding out because he thinks we might get promoted. I'm sure it'll be one of his great footballing master strokes. We'll need a fair wind to get promoted, the team is getting more players back from injury than we've had for a long time and we still look average
I was trying to say that we'd have little chance of winning the play offs - but the top two is not beyond us. i still believe
Ok lets say we do one way or the other get promoted what happens next ? This squad minus the loanees is nowhere near strong enough to compete in the Championship and Evans wont finance the transfer of better players, while I hate being in this division I really don't want us to get a hiding every match.
No one wants to get spanked week in week out (unless thats your bag), but totally agree with the current squad we have, we will be the whipping boys in the Championship...unless Cooky is some kind of messiah
I wonder what has caused the standstill in the takeover? I get the impression that Evans has sniffed a chance of promotion and is holding out for a bigger fee? Surely they can just incorporate a promotion fee this season as part of the takeover deal? As discussed above, I don't think the squad has the inherent ability to survive more than a season in the Championship, not without extensive investment.
While Evans is here we are not going anywhere but down.....I feel for Cook he will find being here a career killer.
I think we’re doomed to L1 mediocrity for the foreseeable. We have neither the money to invest in better nor the flow of quality youth from the academy required to drive the first team towards improvement, whereas Norwich have both.
Haha very easily done. People have banged on for 2 seasons about this squad being the best in the division so when we get a very good manager come in, it's hardly surprising. As I said before Lambert went the problems at this club go alot deeper than the manager
I think our academy has produced some decent talent unfortunately they are coming into unsuccessful teams and often many of them at the same time. We need to be careful we don't ruin their careers by coming into a team which lacks inspiration and characters. For me the academy is not the problems it's the first team
You just have to wonder how much damage has been done to his development by PL’s absurd decision to pair him with an inexperienced loanee for most of his appearances this Season.
