Got some chocolate brought back for me from Costa Rica a few years back, was absolutely ****ing vile, couldn't eat it, dry and nothing like the chocolate were used to.
Agreed. Fortunately found local sources for KitKat dark chocolate and McVite’s Digestives with dark chocolate over here while we are marooned in the USA due to Covid.
Let’s go back to the title of this thread It’s all about timing and forward thinking for instance Before Hull Uni began building its own accommodation blocks theCity Council should have helped them have these in the city god knows we have sites empty and ripe for knocking down . Most of Sheffield Unis student flats have been built within a couple of hundred yards from retail nightlife etc and they are still building now . Maybe less students would get robed on the way home too! The council couldn’t have predicted Amazon killing the retailers like very other city retail chains are closing / covid accelerated this . Had the fruit market not been developed as it is then Whitefriargate could have been made our culture restaurant and bar centre- but as Trinity House own most of it maybe Wykeland wouldn’t have got involved. If shops are to succeed then the need footfall so students in the city would be a godsend That’s it for now
I don't believe students are the answer. Many of them have little money to spend (apart from on beer in subsidised union bars) and most are only around 30 weeks of the year. Imo the city needs more people in decently paid jobs who will buy and live in all the flats that are going up around town.
Totally agree on the town centre jobs , we need to go back to decent access in and through town , lots of very cheap parking even on street , it’s why so many accountants and solicitors and other professions moved out as staff wanted to bring cars . It’s amazing the city with probably the greatest set of wide Boulevard style roads can’t get a tram system but Sheffield with the most difficult terrain and narrow roads in the centre gets one ! Most Central funding is based on population , if only the East Riding would release the suburbs so Hull could be at its actual joined up size we would benefit . We need quality jobs so kids have higher aspirations
Shouldn't have done away with the trams in Hull. Or, later, the trolleybuses. Other cities, notably Leeds made the same mistake with trams. The European cities with, trams didn't make that mistake.
I remember the sweet shop in west end of cave near my mates old house when we were kids used to do a thing called chocolate rock. it was the stuff that fell off the Cadbury flake lines and it was like rock hard compressed chocolate. it was as rare as rocking horse **** but well nice
