100% this, and not just penalties. Said it for years too.

I don't like it when players are down on the ground for a few minutes supposedly injured then go off and come back on straight away. They obviously weren't that badly hurt in first place, should be off for a mandatory period if they've been on the floor for ages.

Maybe the answer is a 60mins match and the clock is stopped when the ball is out of play. No point feigning injury then, you wouldn't be wasting time. Could still disturb the opposition's attack though.

thats because the refs have forgotten the instructions which were treatment apart from serious injury was to rake place off the pitch .

The lad hobbling back on to lay down for 5mins should have been treated with the distain it deserved and the ref shouldn't allow him back on for 5mins. That was ridiculous.

Or at the very least, actually add the 5mins on at the end (and I mean genuine injury time plus the 5mins)

Exactly. Not every touch to the head is a head injury that needs immediate attention. Huge difference between a clash of heads which could be serious, and someone getting a tough on their face from a hand

The ones who roll back onto the pitch get me - I'd just roll 'em back off again.

A poke in the eye, even without a lot of force, can result in a painful injury - but it's certainly not one that would make you play dead on the floor. You're more likely to run around clutching your face shouting expletives.

It's hard to judge the severity of injuries though. Look at Trezeguet at the weekend - I think most of us thought he was play acting and making the most of it but it did turn out to be ACL related. Also look at Matip most times - he looks fine but then out of nowhere, he's injured and is out of action for weeks / months.

I dont know what the solution is other than to stop the clock completely, and play until the full 90 mins is up.

Don't know why we don't have a rugby style stop of the clock. Instantly stops time wasting.

He prob shouldn’t have got up, walked back onto the pitch, fallen down, got treatment, walked off the pitch, came onto the pitch run around for a minute then gone down injured again...

Refs are supposed to add time on anyway, but it's all very informally done. I think it's worth an experiment - in a cup competition say - to synch the stadium clock to the ref's, and they stop and start on his whistle and we'll see just how much longer it makes a game last.
It still doesn't address the other problem of play-acting disrupting an opposition move, but it may help.

Yeah agree mate - it won't stop people cheating to gain advantage but it does make sure that we play the full 90 mins instead of this stupid injury time which is completely false. We were given 3 mins injury time after the first half vs Villa when their players were going down left right centre, including a big injury, and plus they scored a goal.

I recall someone saying Klopp was being dramatic over Virgil's injury and that he'd be back for the next game <doh>

It is difficult to tell in the minute what is a genuine injury. Players themselves don't always know how serious their injuries are but they 100% know when they're faking one especially one to the head.

Would have to be reduced from 90mins otherwise games would last 3-4 hours!

Time wasting would be eliminated but players would still feign head injuries to get play stopped; breaks up play which could stop the opposition's attack or momentum.
