Good to see Irish racing hasn't altered its format for a funeral , I've fortunately got paint to watch !
You best crack on with that then tomorrow rather than make a song and dance about it...I m sure you ll have a lovely time. Guessing you ll be on to the Managing Director of Bangor-On-Dee racecourse at some point to register your displeasure. Of course for most it's hardly a big deal racing is still ON or is ON TOMORROW.
no one is allowed from public anyway , ive plenty to do , i just think it’s bad on the millions who want to spend their leisure time as they like ........
Not to worry the racing world will return to normality next week and beyond. Anyone would think there is no racing on tomorrow and over the weekend the way some are droning on. It's really not a big deal....
We have to wait until Sunday for the Greenham and the Fred Darling but it's not a bad card at The Curragh, even if it will not have much impact on the Guineas. I like Know It All at 4/1, even though she is not the highest rated in the field. The Murtagh filly has won at Group 3 level and surely has scope for more this season. Not many miles on the clock and she ran in Group 1 company in her final two starts last year. Not disgraced in those two races, she faded late on in both of those mile contests and I feel the drop back in trip is going to suit. Murtagh has been getting some winners and she faces some old and exposed sorts who may have higher PBs but can they repeat them against a filly with scope? I made Know It All an 11/4 or 3/1 shot here and was more than happy with 4/1. 2.35 Curragh Know It All 4/1
Tongue in cheek about the bumper tomorrow, the horse runs for the Old Gold Syndicate which has had horses with Nicholls previously. Interesting to see how it goes
they still will won’t they? Only change I can see for this weekend is that the Newbury and Ayr meetings are now on Sunday....and I’m looking at a race card at Thirsk for the comp tomorrow
The opener at the Curragh sees two who were 2nd on their debuts at the head of the market. Castle Star is favourite and was only just denied by a short head by a more experienced runner. Gaire Os Ard was perhaps unlucky to bump into a smart one last time but she was beaten the best part of 4 lengths and will be vulnerable even getting her fillies allowance. These two horses have RPRs of 78 and 76 respectively and that does not look insurmountable, for all that their experience may count for them. Aidan O'Brien has a line through Gaire Os Ard through Tenebrism, who looked Royal Ascot standard with a good enough RPR of 90 first time up and he should have a handle on what his colt Glounthaoune may face here on his debut. A village near Cork is what this son of Kodiac seems to have been named after and he cost 350,000 Guineas. Perhaps likely to be more forward than the Galileo's that always seem to need their first race, I feel it is worth siding with this newcomer. Ryan Moore takes the ride and I decided to chance this one because the stable have already had a couple of above average looking 2YOs already this season and with the race being 6F it might not be such a disadvantage as a 5F race against runners with experience. 1.30 Curragh Glounthane 10/3
Glounthane.is not just any old village in Co.Cork. It's where Magniers mother was from Just saying like...
The second race on the Curragh card looks a better standard, with two above average looking winners crossing swords. Aidan O'Brien saddles Cadamosto, who won last week at Dundalk with the minimum of fuss. He was three and a half lengths clear that day and earned a rating of 88 from the Racing Post. I though he might step up to 6F before long but makes a quick reappearance over 5F. Jim Bolger's Missing Matron was an even bigger margin winner on debut when scoring here in March. There was four and a half lengths to spare and the runner up went on win from the favourite for today's open Castle Star, so a win for that horse would be a pointer for Missing Matron. This is an awkward call. Missing Matron would seem the value at 7/4 in receipt of 5 lbs as a filly facing a colt and only 3 lbs behind on RPRs. The trouble is that it was soft/heavy when Missing Matron won and it is only good/yielding today. Cadamosto did come from the all-weather surface mind you and I find his sire No Nay Never seems to do better with his progeny early in their careers, rather than progressing with time. It is only a week on but how much can a horse improve in 7 days? With Cadamosto odds-on at 8/11 generally I can't back him. Missing Matron might have been the bet but I just wonder how much the testing ground played in her easy win last month. In the end I decided to just watch this one with a view to Royal Ascot perhaps. Instead, I decided to take on the Odds-On Broome. He was once thought of as Aidan's leading Derby horse after pissing up in the Ballysax and then going on to land the Derrinstown. It didn't happen for him and he lost his way to the extent that he was tried over 2 miles when tailed off behind Trueshan in the Long Distance Cup last season. He got his show back on the road this season and hold several of these rivals on that form but he gives me a bit of concern at 4/6 Fav. I went with Thundering Nights, who probably needs to improve but is only 4YO and she was progressive last year. 12F on the soft probably didn't suit when she was 7th in the Group 1 Fillies and Mares at Ascot. This race is a drop back to Group 3 company and she faces a bunch with ample question marks. I feel that if she can improve 7 lbs from last season she can be competitive here and she is an each-way price. 3.10 Curragh Thundering Nights 11/1 Each-way to cause a storm and brush Broome away.
