It has always been peculiar to me that of the ‘Big’ ‘6’ or whatever, Man United do have the most legitimate core fan base by a mile. Especially compared to the people’s socialist football club of Liverpool.

All you need to do is compare the reactions of fans on RedCafe and RAWK. The Scousers are far more positive about ECL than any other set of fans.

So Liverpool FC turn out to have the most Tory fan base of all.

I wonder. I do think it’s in the hands of the governing bodies. Give them the final ultimatum and see if they are willing to forego everything for the super league. In time the glitz will fade and it will seem a poor challenge. Without a ho,e nation base who will care if Chelsea play juve. It’s not English fans v Italian fans, it’s just one meaningless franchise v another meaningless franchise.

Difference with that, is the PL was never going to be a "closed shop".

    You can't compare them.

A bit of a difference between the PL and the closed-shop ESL though, to be fair.

Be interesting to see how it all works if it does go ahead. UEFA will still have the champs league, teams like Bayern/Ajax etc will be in it, plus the team that finishes like 10th in the PL, we might even qualify

Not having a go at you personally, just that your post mentioned these points I have highlighted. China and India, and the idea that the PL is in demand globally. Firstly the PL is not currently available here in China as the deal was stopped several months ago. Also, I am not too sure that the appeal of watching football is that big in India as the major sport there is cricket. Also in China, the majority of football shirts I see getting worn are not the teams from the PL, but from Italy and Spain. So maybe this myth that the PL is so popular here doesn't exactly ring true.

I think it will struggle because fans of big teams are used to winning. This won't be the case so often here. May redistribute fan bases internationally.

There is this and I think they massively underestimate the level of support clubs outside of this project have and very few of those fans are going to sign up to broadcasters offering ESL games, so it might not be as profitable as they think.

If they can’t get PSG and Bayern on board then it isn’t even legitimately a competition between the top teams in Europe.

Should we be supporting / encouraging ‘big 6’ fans to create fan owned Phoenix clubs in the domestic leagues? I wouldn’t even be averse to the concept of them starting relatively high up the system to encourage their fans to switch.

If we can get them to ditch the entities that were once their football clubs then that would be a huge blow to the English ‘clubs’ in the ESL and might bring some of the money back to the English league.

Absolutely and I can pop along to Lymington FC and watch a pretty decent game too, rather than get worked up about Liverhampton, Citeh and the rest, giving us a work over, most times that is. Though it has been great to beat them occasionally!

Aston Villa and Nottingham Forest have won more top European titles than Arsenal, Chelsea, Tottenham, Athletico, Manchester City and Juventus combined.

In the last 50 years we have won as many Champions League Trophies as City.

Hold up. Maybe we're all being hasty.

If they take VAR with them, then I fully support this move.

Is it just me or does anybody else also secretly want this ESL to happen? Just to see how badly f*cking destroyed these arrogant clubs get.
