The most important thing is what change is feasible and possible to Club ownership as a result of this opportunity presented to fans and goverments/associations What can we seriously impose to rectify not only the rampant greed but also rampant oil money doping? If fans could own 51% of the clubs by paying **** knows how much over 10 years would that end the talk of super leagues, more cash and oil barons ruining football? On the other hand would it hurt smaller clubs who couldn't afford the same level of ownership? I couldn't imagine people investing to build stadiums and teams if they could not control the outcomes
I'm not actually against the newer league type format, but there has to be no given right to qualify. Teams must be able to be relegated of some sorts or promoted. Hell do this, but do it by this season's standings. So the likes of Leicester and west ham are involved instead of arsenal and Tottenham
The entire debacle misses the point entirely. The 12 clubs who’ve put their name to this collectively lost £1.2BN in their last published accounts. These are supposed to be the elite of the game. Their need for more revenue is driven by overspending on players and wage bills. All that’d happen even if they got increased revenue from an ESL, is that they’d spend it...on wages and players. What needs to happen is that clubs worldwide agree some sort of wage capping and the days of players earning £400k a week needs to end, as the game simply can’t afford it.
Thats my major gripe with it. Not that its taking anything away from UEFA, I couldnt give two flying ****s about UEFA, they are ones to talk when it comes to greed and corruption. And ive heard people comparing this to when the top clubs broke away to form the PL, but this isnt the same at all. ANY club in the English football league can win membership to the PL, through success on the pitch and any team can be relegated by way of failure. Its the closed off group, members only mentality of the whole thing that I cannot wrap my head around. Basically none of the top 10 teams in the PL have anything to play for now. Why bother vying for top 4 if you are West Ham or Leicester now? There is basically nothing left to play for.
Our game against Leeds tonight feels pointless. Can't win the league, can't get relegated, top 4 doesn't matter, but already in the super League, so what's the point.
Very true, but everyone has lost money let's not pretend other club aren't in the mire here as well. They will absolutely spend the cash on players. The only winners are players and agents, that's why fifa are threatening them as well.
Exactly, I feel the same about all our remaining league games too. Why should I be invested? We cant win the league, cant get relegated, no need to get top 4...so WTF are we playing for?
Totally but doesn't it make sense that last October utd and Liverpool revealed proposals to buy off the league to take prem power on the same terms AND that this is all a negotiating point where these clubs want to be looked after and are putting it up to uefa to make it happen Nothing about the proposed format is controversial except for the entry rules. If uefa proposed it the only controversy is where do domestic cups fit! Imo they either want to break uefa or have uefa give them something approaching this.
My favourite image is when he found out the Conservatives would get an overall majority at 10pm on Dec 12 2019.
Well yeah, so why doesn’t the game tackle the elephant in the room, as opposed to coming up with hideous **** like this that won’t even solve the issue?
If they truly wanted to have a viable European Super League, they would say, 1. the league with consist of x amount of teams and will start from season commencing 2023-2024 for example 2. The teams will consist of the winners of the Domestic leagues from the top x leagues across Europe- that way only one team from one country will be in it at the beginning 3. There will be promotion and relegation and the winners of a revamped Champions league will gain promotion to the new super league. The team finishing bottom of the super league will be relegated bak to their domestic completion. 4. Teams in the super league will still be able to play in their countries domestic cup competitions. It won’t happen like this of course, The way it has been announced and will be played is a joke.
Now that José's on the dole perhaps he could be employed to manage the new league. It'll soon be over then.
UEFA have confirmed that players who take part in the Super League will likely be banned from all UEFA competitions. They are just looking into the legalities of it.
