so the funding received is already more than the tv money they get. That’s even before they then sell the naming rights to comp, sponsorship, tv deals, work out prize money etc...
No they don’t as it’s ****ed anyway if this thing ever got the go ahead, as it’d kill the league and thus its value. They’d be better served telling the 6 to **** off if they choose to, and rebuilding from there, whilst keeping the competitive pyramid alive with lesser revenues. Bye, bye the days of £300k a week players and £80m transfer fees, we might actually get some semblance of reality back in the domestic game, while the ‘elite’ play a glorified pre season tournament week in week out for the amusement of the sub continent and Yanks.
No doubt it makes financial sense, otherwise they wouldn't have given it the time of day in the first place.
James Milner, speaking to BBC Sport: On the European Super League: "I can only give my personal opinion and I don't like it one bit and hopefully it doesn't happen. "It [the current system] has worked well for a long time, what has made it special what we have done over the last few years is we have earned the right to win the Champions League and earned the right to win the Premier League. The product we have currently is very good. "It is difficult. Coming into the game today Leeds fans were making their feelings shown. As players we don't really have a say so it feels a bit unjust. All we can do is try and win football matches."
They’re not investors, they’re providing a loan facility at a reported rate of interest between 2-3%.
Out of interest... what has the reaction been like in Italy and Spain? Haven't seen much on twitter etc...
On the European Super League: "I said so many things now already. We were not involved in the process. We are the team, we wear the shirts with pride. Somebody has made a decision with the owners in world football that we don't know exactly why. There will be reasons, our owners, are not gamblers. We are here, we are the face of the club and arrived here and Leeds fans shouted at us as though we made the decision but we didn't. "The club is bigger than all of us. We should not forget that. I don't forget that which is why I take criticism for everything I am responsible for but the team was not involved in this process and I was not involved. I don't feel responsible for it. "Things will change in the future, maybe not now, maybe in a few years. Uefa made a decision about the Champions League, they showed me the whole thing and there were more games than before and I said I don't like but they still did it. "Fifa plan a team World Cup, when do we play those games? All these things I have said often enough but did it change anything? No. That is the situation." Klopp essentially calling BS on all sides.
Terrible from Leeds. Did Bielsa know about the putting of tshirts in the dressing room? Can't see any manager allowing that. Fans shouting at opposition buses - we can't say anything when we've had idiots throwing bottles but why blame the players for this mess. Unacceptable.
I feel more optimistic tonight that the super league won’t happen. The reason is that we have the government taking a stand against that happening. In addition to labour and the heir to the throne William. Surveys show massive opposition of the fans (80%) against the super league. And if the people don’t want it to happen, then it won’t. Because I don’t think Boris can risk this affecting his election chances. It wouldn’t be difficult for parliament to pass a law. For example they could make it mandatory for clubs to seek and implement the views of their fans (season ticket holders) before entering in a new competition instead of a current one. Or something else. I think if the government has the will they will find the way.
Absolutely brilliant from Leeds, they are where they are now because they gained promotion on merit and next season three more teams will have the same opportunity. Closed shop (frightened of not being good enough to compete) leagues should have no place in sport and more players need to say this.
BBC have an article about that the reaction has been to either throw the Real and Barca owners into a well or burn them at the stake, a poll is being conducted
