Klopp proper got his arse out over it. Ok his players probably couldn’t have gone against their employers in such a blatant way, and that’s their choice, but he didn’t need to piss his kecks over it.

Leeds were playing to keep their EL chances alive tonight (or should have been) in their first season back in the big league. Once those prizes disappear the league has only one point for most who play in it, to survive, it’d kill it s competitive edge, and if owners don’t get or understand that, then they no place in our game.

This isn’t about club rivalry it’s massively more important than that, it’s about keeping our game one that is driven from the bottom up by sporting merit

they’re an investment bank....this isn’t simply a loan from a high street bank is it! They see the $$$ just as much as the clubs do.

i can’t see how the gov would have any control over it? They’ve never got involved in football before so why do they think they have any influence?

Yeah I was surprised how much he took it to heart. It might be more a sign of how upset he is by the whole situation rather than the t-shirts in isolation.

They're the government, so they should be able to have some influence if necessary.

More to the point though, it's a chance for Boris to attach his name to a popular issue.

Just don’t see it personally. They don’t govern the game, so why would they have any influence over what a club does

Passing laws on a whim to gain some public support puts you on dangerous ground as they often are both ill judged and have unintended consequences .

The two levers they have are money and regulation. But I agree, I think it's more a PR exercise than anything meaningful.

Gotta laugh at Prince William and Boris getting involved. As though the oppose elitism and hoarding of wealth

Though William is president of the FA, so he really should be involved.

looking at this and the various clubs involved

Real madrid seem to be central to the discussion and are up to their necks in debt. They have loads of players to sell but instead seem to want to clear this debt by instigating this

Barca they don't seem to have a front face to the thing but are just as up **** creek in debt and can't afford to piss.

Atletico seem along for the ride here. Seem quite happy to be as well. I'm not quite sure why as they always seemed well run since they changed the lad at the top and have built up for years

Juve, againare dominant right now have have no issues I know of are they in debt?

inter are chinese owned and their owner close their chinese super league team recently. I am pretty sure this isde is desperate to keep the money rolling

AC. obviously have been out of CL for a while and all that good stuff so clearly smacks of the guys who want the auto quali.

Man utd, seem to have fingers i the pie and seem to have been bribed with extra cash to start off. The glaziers will probabaly be all over it as they were last october.

LFC. clear caught in october with their fingers in the cookie jar on domestic league reform so I assume that FSG have been in the inner circle here. Clearly see it as undervalued and something that can generate any amount of money. best 200mil investment ever

Cheslea- seem to be along for the ride, nothing to gain par se but cannot lose their dominant position.

City - as per cheslea. can't be left out but don't care either way.

SPurs - imo have been probably forced in by debt. Levy is a money man and this is an offer no money man could ever turn down. I expect he sees it as a once in a life time shot that his club is lucky to be offered. aka imo making up the numbers

Arsenal. probably inner circle but who knows? Thats purely on Kroneke.

If I were to guess right now I would put 4 to 6 as the real inner circle with the rest along for the ride. I am guessing based on PSG hanging round on the outside looking sheepish that city and chelsea could have done the same except for they knew this would tip the prem away from them. PSG probably want to sign up but have decided to try squeeze the thing.

If the UEFA and the Prem are serious about inviting massive law suits then the place to start imo is to attack the weak links in the alliance and isolate the inner circle.

spurs, arsenal chelsea, city I would say could be carved off with enough pressure unless the money really is enough to go totally alone.

They can make a lot of noise, but if no law is being broken what else can they do?
Despite how it sometimes appears, this isn't a dictatorship.

the government have zero say and they know it.

have these clubs paid tax. yes.

    ok. discussion over.

If the club pay more tax in the future, ok discussion over.

Its that simple and no amount of bleating about grass roots and community will change it. they've allowed the situation arise over decades alongside the FA who actually set the rules of this little league.

further and most importantly its an internal matter of the FA regarding entry to european competition. If the premier league want to expel clubs and have their vote etc then people can get on with it but the government get s no say.

Its as simple as this. Theres nothing stopping an FA premier league existing with 6 clubs not qualifying for UEFa competitions but sat in their own private comp and the rest playing for whatever uefa put together. You could have a situation where city win the next 20 premier leagues but everton or west ham or leicester represent england in a uefa "champions" league that competes with the private comp where the german clubs beat up the english clubs every time, hell maybe everton would benefit form it and win one.

Its all about people drawing lines and uefa officials jumping up and down threatening people right now. Not one bit of negotiation has become public at this point but those have to be between the domestic leagues and clubs and the eufa and clubs.

there is no role for the uk government.

I'm sure we have asked the Govt to help football wherever possible (including fan ownership) but it fell on deaf ears. Now they want to get involved.

    This whole thing stinks.

Also - the new CL proposals which were signed off yesterday and will become effective in 2024.

    No. of participants increased
There will be a single league where teams play min 10 games - which will be randomly assigned based on an algorithm
Then there will be another league / play off
And there will newly created spots for the highest ranking UEFA co-efficient teams that don't qualify through the proper channels.

It's just a massive clusterf*ck. UEFA, Super League, everything

Essentially that’s exactly what it is, just on a grander scale. It’s a loan based on estimated future revenues, that The Times reports will carry an interest rate of 2-3%, so yeah they’re seeing an opportunity to get a return.

You think they’re going to €3.5BN on the table without security?

Anyway, read back I was originally replying to someone who thought this was somehow a payment that would be incremental to TV revenue and sponsorship etc.

I do smell Yank here, tbh. The model will be closer to their perverse idea of what sport should be - all spectacle with little substance, a popcorn event.
From any non-instigators point of view, well - it's a case of being offered to join a big party and "we don't want to be the ones with our noses up against the window pane".

Yes, But real madrid have positioned themselves absolutely front and centre and the juve lad resigned his role in the eca and all that good stuff.

I agree there's at least half those named who have left their nose mark of the shop window.

absolutely. its a loan to the new company who then pay the founders cash moolah.

absolutely JP morgan are in for a profit here. Its way more than they can make elsewhere in the currently climate i suppose.
