They went into administration and never actually fully paid for the statdium plus broke the leagues version of FFP to get promoted but that doesn't fit the narrative .
As @dmlynch mentions, Liverpool have cancelled their TOWN HALL meeting later today. EXCLUSIVE: #LFC chief executive Billy Hogan’s planned address to club staff this morning cancelled at full-time last night. Plan had been to flesh out Super League proposals that are facing strong opposition both internally and externally.
Well that would put Everton in a bit of a bind as their wage bill was already close to 80% of their total revenue and they have reported £250m in losses in the last 2 accounting years even with big Al sliding in some extra dosh .
New board in place of you don't want to be bothered by These lower clubs. https://www.not606.com/threads/the-european-super-league-board.392368/#post-14822758
Patrick Bamford really hit the nail on the head last night when he talked about how everyone is piping up now and getting involved, from big clubs, smaller clubs, FA's, UEFA, FIFA, Governments, Media .... however where was the furore when it comes to tackling racism? Needless to say, this doesn't fit the Sky narrative and instead let Neville and Carra talk about how the super League is killing the game.
Make new laws for a start, or at least threaten to. Sure there'll probably always be some sort of loophole or way to get round the worst, but they can at least make life difficult for them. Though I don't really think this is a political issue.
You've obviously read the same sources as me about JP Morgan. They are underwriting securities on the ESL. What I read says they and Key Capital are prepared to be the only investors but will consider others as this goes along.
With our Yanks I think a driving force behind their participation/leadership in this (other than oooh look money) is UEFA giving up on FFP... our lot seemed to think it was the only way to create parity and when it failed miserably they've done the yank thing of "Europeans can't run sport as a business" and decided to do it themselves.. When you think back to their expressed horror at transfers when they first came in...we kinda saw their thinking then: I mean in a way thet are right... the UEFA/PL model is a bucket of **** business wise. What they have just never seemed to understand is we don't view the actual sport the same way the yank population view theirs... both passionate yes but culturally worlds apart.
Other than the non promotion / relegation, what are the other reasons people are AGAINST the Super League?
They're certainly capable of making new laws, but there has to be a basis and support for it. There's a process required so it would depend if enough people in parliament can be arsed about it. Also, as many would see it as an infringement of rights they might think it opens a can of worms that might affect their own interests. I think this would be a more complicated endeavour than it seems at first. I have no idea whether or not there's a current law that it might technically fall foul of.
I thought that after their about-turns on several issues they had finally got the message about what the LFC culture is. They clearly either don't get it or they do and are ignoring it.
Of course, hence why I think the threat might be more of a lever than the actual Implementation. It just depends on how credible that threat is.
They're out to make a profit; fair enough, they're running a business, not a hobby. In the past, they've made tone deaf decisions but backtracked when fans have spoken up. This time it appears that the parties exepected the backlash but still went ahead anyway, which hurts far more. Can they lose all those customers and still increase profits? They obviously think yes, which makes sense from a business Perspective, but stinks from a human one.
