Tottenham Hotspur is worthless if outside a football competition. I agree with most of the rest of your post but we live in a capitalist system which is continually supported in elections and special pleading for football fans would be well down my list of priorities.

Agreed but as I implied earlier, prices of football season tickets are well down the list of priorities come the revolution.

I take your point PNP the whole PL thing has been about money but at least they have drawn a line in the sand and I am glad to hear people like Shearer stand by the fundementals of football despite having attended the trough filled by Sky courtesy of the FA.
Have the FA said anything by the way?

Managed Celtic and Liverpool. Also worked for Chelsea. Don't remember it being an issue then, funnily enough. :emoticon-0173-middl

Roman Abramovich should be embarrassed by Chelsea's European Super League alliance - The Telegraph.

Pochettino chose to prioritise Lo Celso, Ndombele and Sessegnon/Clarke over Fernandes. As for Grealish, he would at best have been a decent deputy for Son. Mourinho was heavily quoted as saying he wanted a chance to manage the squad Tottenham already had.
It's not easy buying players who make a difference at the level we were at.

No way would Grealish be a dep for Son. Grealish is a playmaker, Son would be looking to get on the end of his work.

Agree, Grealish would be more likely to replace Lo Celso

Guess this could scupper any ongoing discussions with Amazon for stadium naming rights too, which had been a topic mentioned in the past.

“Roman Abramovich is the man who fired his £50 notes at the old Premier League cartel and beat them. He should be ashamed to side with the Levys and Kroenkes of this world.”
That's a genuine quote from it.
The thieving mafioso, who is a strong ally of a dictator and is too dodgy financially for Switzerland, should be ashamed of standing alongside some businessmen.
Yeah, that's the worst thing he's ever done. Of course! <laugh>

It was certainly interesting watching Neville squirm as he realised he was slowly snookering himself with his take on things. He spoke with passion and I agreed with most of his points, but any pundit who played at PL level for one of the Big 4 (i.e. almost all of them apart from Jenas) inevitably digs their way into a hole when they realise that the ESL is merely the next evolutionary step in the PL's genetic model. They all realise that the financial structuring of the PL - a structure which broadcasters and pundits have bent over backwards to reinforce - means that the odds of success are weighted heavily in favour of a select few sides, and that the protection that afforded them was something no-one ever spoke about let alone challenged.

I see ourselves as living proof of how ridiculously hard it is to 'break' this stranglehold and we were a relatively big club to start with! A club like us can spend decades meticulously plotting a route to the very top. Levy has done precisely that. Then as soon as the perceived 'mega' teams appear threatened, the spend a small fortune to buy more success and we are pushed to the back of the queue again. And they are only able to get away with that because UEFA's own FFP rules are stacked in favour of the status quo in the first place!

Ultimately the ONLY real qualm the likes of Neville and Carragher can state about the ESL is that the founder members can't be relegated from it. Any other complaint sounds like pure hypocrisy as the PL itself does all of them already, and worse.

The timing of Maureen's sacking is no coincidence. Not that I feel at all sorry for him, but in his heart I can imagine Levy is somewhat saddened by our lack of tangible success. Is the ESL a short cut to that success? Yes. But let's not forget, Levy has been working on the long route FAR longer than the chairmen of any of the other PL splitters. He has tried long term planning and it hasn't reaped any reward. If anything, we have gone round in one big circle, not much better now than where we were under Redknapp or Jol. I cannot sympathise with Levy for the decisions he makes. But I can sympathise with the fact that he has devoted the best years of his life to this club, and after 2 decades of an uphill slog only to look up see that City, United and Chelsea have installed a ski lift, I can sympathise with him if he is a bit despondent and sees no other viable path to success anymore.

Spurf getting worked up is rarer than Michael Oliver not giving a penalty against us.

We're in the club because without a 6th PL splitter, the rest of the PL would vote the other 5 splitters out.....that and we can get our hands on cheap paint.

If this was less controversial, we'd be on the outside looking in...and when it collapses and Uefa gives in to the biggest clubs' demands, I'd bet that we're not given any special status or favour. We're supping with the devils here.
