They were not the instigators nor their fans were much against. So they pulled out just because the project was no longer viable.
That’s reasonable. In the ESL the fourth would have missed out if not a member of the dirty 6. A maximum of 5 is a progressive step too, with the coefficient to placate the big clubs. LFC and MU stand to benefit most from this system.
So, using the current table, the top four plus Liverpool (top coefficient) would be in too but Chelsea (next highest I think) would miss out? If we have five in (top four plus CL winner for example) then coefficient is irrelevant?
No, would be city united Leicester chelsea and then Liverpool would get in as one of the new extra places as I’m assuming they’re highest coefficient in Europe that aren’t in a CL place
Was thinking West Ham are fourth with Chelsea fifth, forgot Chelsea played last night and returned to fourth
So, if the table was... 1. Man City 2. Man Utd 3. Leicester 4. West Ham 5. Chelsea 6. Liverpool ... the top four qualify for the CL (obviously) with Liverpool getting in because our coefficient rating is higher than Chelsea's (and most others in Europe). What happens if Chelsea (or anyone else not in the top four that isn't Liverpool) won the CL or EL...? https://www.uefa.com/memberassociations/uefarankings/club/#/yr/2021
Tbf, it doesn’t actually say anything about a max number of teams. So I guess in theory if things lined up perfectly you could end up with the top 4, plus the CL or EL winners, plus 2 teams that didn’t make it but given the extra 2 slots? They would have to qualify for Europe somehow though, so can’t finish 15th for example so with all the permutations might be that could only have 6 rather than 7 but gets pretty complicated at that point with teams winning the CL abs EL and finishing outside top 7 and two teams with high coefficients finishing 5-7th or winning domestic cup etc Slots three and four: awarded to the two clubs with the highest club coefficients that have not qualified automatically for the Champions League’s league stage, but have qualified either for the Champions League qualification phase or the Europa League/the Europa Conference League (due to start in the 2021/22 season).
Given that we now live in an era of ethics and morality, will we giving our CL spot to another a team who actually deserves it?
Ah, that's different. They've got to have qualified for some form of European competition. Rather that ensuring clubs like Liverpool and Man Utd etc are always in the CL, it's more about them not having to play in the EL
Obviously we wouldn't and if the rules say the spot is ours, why would we? My argument is against the rules
West Ham lose their spot under current rules so I'd guess that would still be the case since West Ham don't have the highest coefficient
at the moment West Ham unfortunately miss out. It’s kind of why we maybe don’t want chelsea and arsenal to win the CL and EL as if we finish 4th with chelsea 5th and arsenal wherever, we’d miss out on the CL.
Nonsense it was a powerplay. It looked that way when it was first mooted but then the facts came out. They all signed a 177 page legally binding contract, a new company was formed, they’d got short term funding in place. Make no mistake, this was a mutiny. They also didn’t get what they wanted, not in the slightest, and to dress up this abject failure as some sort of ‘win’ is beyond belief tbh.
CONFIRMED: The 14 Premier League clubs will all wear the 'earn it' t-shirts whenever facing one of the six ESL clubs. Interesting. Not sure what to make of that tbh. Agree with the unity stance and making a statement but they've pulled out (forced) of ESL now so, theoretically, the PL as already "won". Alternatively, if this happens should the players at the six wear them too? If they do, what will it achieve? Joining the fight? Or be seen as the club attempting to fall in line? Edit; again, the fans, players, manager, etc take the brunt of the complaints but they're going to have to get used to it unfortunately
