It’s a dogshit idea and always has been, which is why it’s never reached fruition in over 20 years of it being mentioned.

As a team can’t conceivably compete in 2 truly competitive 20 team leagues running side by side, it’s impossible without literally having 2 sides. If clubs ever did decide that a ESL was the way they wanted to go, then it’d have to be at the expense of their domestic status, the greedy 12 wanted both, so wanted to make the ESL completely non performance related. As a founding member you could finish bottom for a decade and it’d mean jack ****. Who wants to pay to watch that?

Big clubs playing each other in Europe, usually in the knockout stages of the CL, is completely different to a league format that has no jeopardy and it literally means **** all to win or lose.

Exactly. And this was just as much reason for me to be wholeheartedly against this super league **** as the closed shop element of it, how they ever thought that would go down well is just beyond logical thinking. Which makes me suspicious as to if that was actually the end game anyway.

Make announcement that you and eurpoes biggest clubs are fuking off to do your own thing.

Knowing its never gonna pass you've gone all shock and awe.

Then you get what you really wanted by using the threat to come back to the table for a better deal.

Its so fuking American it hilarious.

+ Those clubs floating on the markets prices went up briefly. Jus sayin. :bandit:

I think so too. You have to admit though that the biggest moments have come in the European games. 'Corner taken quickly, Origi ' will take some beating in memorable moments. And that would all likely go if we were playing Europe's best every week. What kind of game would it take to eclipse the Origi moment? Like others have said it's the rarity and the endeavour it took to get to even be on the same pitch with Barcelona that makes it special.

absolutely true mate. 100% we've all seen barca implode under the games when they were actually good and lose inthe CL and cry. one comp would have had to take priority so when city can buy anyone and pay anything why would we have even tried i nthe prem? to earn about 20mil difference max?

we would just do enough to be top half in that ESL and crawl into the "post season" ****e.

The model here is obvious. Again rugby always offers comparisons. the competitive nature of the french pro 14 and the english premiership means the european cup is less important but on the other hand the welsh and irish think has a league nobody gives a **** about and the european cup is more important.

If we think our prem would be bad image the la liga thing. It would be barca b still winning it and barca c in their second division too.

You are dead right, all sides would need is to be 5th or better in each division and they are in the knock outs. if you have a bad start you might not even bother play a decent side in the rest ffs.

nobody would want to watch dead rubbers.

I doubt many platcis watched LFC play our last group match this year.

Yeah...problem being that FIFA/UEFA have noses in the trough...they'll not do it and they'll not invite or accept recommendations by an independent review.
Tbf... we can't but City and United could just wear ones saying we already did....at a canter.... maybe front and back like.

Edit... wrong post replied to lol... meant to Z's T-shirt one?

There are good some points here and yes you're right English football was in **** Street before the Premier League and you're also right about how they passed revenues to players and agents, but that's been the catalyst for what's happened now. Foreign ownership has its claws in us and taken us for granted. They were wrong to do it and at Liverpool John Henry showed massve disrespect to Klopp, the players and the fans - and to the other teams in the Prem not called City, united, Arsenal, Spurs or Chelsea.

Since transfer fees went mental, some 'stars' have in the main become prima donnas who give more of a **** about the money than the game and get injured at the drop of a hat, so that's why those of us who can remember the good old days long for them to come back when you saw a ****ing good game and players trying; however, we accepted the change in the domestic setup and aspired to win the titles because they were domestic. It's why although we grumble at the Premier League we can't see it go because for the last 30 years it's all we've known; but it still has questions to answer, as do Sky, BT, ESPN, UEFA and FIFA, them most of all.

I'm going to say this again, cause no one seems to remember two days ago when I said

    SALARY CAPS

If fifa brings in Salary caps it ends the need for more and more money for clubs. Its been banded about for decades but its time now to bring it in, financial pressures almost demand it.
Barca and Real are only wanting a ESL cause they've ****ed themselves over handing out unsustainable salaries. It would also mean that the impact of Oil owners is reduced. Sure they maybe able to pay a big transfer fee, but if wages are capped on a level means players will have to start choosing clubs more on actually playing rather than what they are being paid.

I see two ways of doing it.
Player Salary cap: No player can be paid more than X amount
Club wage bill cap: Club can't pay more than X amount (per week/year or whatever)

Me too. At least I've mentioned curbing expenditure - which includes salary caps - several times.
I'd also like to see the amount paid to agents drastically cut, because apparently we're not allowed to kill 'em.

Short term cost control, it came in after the last huge increase in the TV revenues, around 2016, and the rule was that you could only increase your wage bill by a fixed amount (it was £7m iirc) if your wage bill was already above a set level and you didn’t increase your revenues by a source other than the TV cash to offset any incremental rise. It lasted about 3 years tops I think, and was then binned off, presumably as it was impossible to accurately measure.

Salary caps would have to be across the whole of Europe that’s the only issue.
