If you understand what you mean fair enough I just don't get how you've said its about damage limitation and managing the players mentalities because many of them are lost, you highlight Holy who was all over the shop and then say its a good thing on how Cook has spoken about the players and some of them could take it personally and lower their shoulders (which doesn't sound like damage limitation to me)

If I was feeling low in confidence I don't think my manager saying he didn't trust me (even collectively) and purposely not shaking my hand as I walked of the pitch would improve my confidence especially after calling himself 'demolition man'. Perhaps I just misunderstood what you meant by damage limitation and sports psychology has moved on since I studied it some years ago.

A valid point, Nuggets, and there could be an element of that with some players. I still don't think it's the right way to get a decent move though. I wouldn't be surprised if this summer has the highest number of free agents ever. A lot of clubs will likely be downsizing their squad numbers due to the financial hit of the pandemic. It will be a tough market for players with there probably being more outgoing than incoming over the transfer window. If I was an out of contract Ipswich player I'd be busting a gut to get noticed.

I was once manager & player for an amateur team and I often watched, read and listened to how the really top respected managers coped with difficult times, bad spells, off form players.
A quiet word, arm around shoulder, encouragement, aware of a family personal issue, and when merited, genuine praise. Not in my character to slag off or yell at people, and I knew they played for community pride, fun, each other and for free!

While I accept strong words needed to be said, it is alarming and glaringly obvious that none of his tactics have worked. I like the fact that he also blames himself.

The stupid congratulations to other team players after the game, ignoring yr own would not fill me with confidence or respect for my manager.

He's signed a 3 year deal with Wigan as their manager

That is why Bobby Robson is so highly regarded. He was as close as it gets to a perfect human being really. Klopp also seems to have that same loving nature. Sir Alex Ferguson however took a different and even more successful approach. Pep has famously had his run ins and so has Jose. If it’s not in their nature to be calm and considered then it’s not going to do anyone any good to pussy foot around the issues.

Bobby famously made himself unpopular early on. The great Brian Clough of course demolished the Leeds squad before they went on to demolish him. Then look what he went on to achieve at Forest.

The analogy I would use is that sometimes you renovate a house and sometimes you knock it down to build a new one. You can’t knock the old one down without creating some rubble.

I’m sure he has caused some of the anxiety and in some cases that will be players knowing that their time is up or they will be worried about their family homes in Suffolk. But the point is that they’re ultimately responsible for finding themselves in that position. We have seen a change in tone from Cook and that’s because he is now trying to mould the players he wants to keep.

I’m sure he doesn’t really give a stuff about the ones he doesn’t. Let’s not forget just how much these men get paid. In many occupations there is not the time or the luxury to complain about how your boss has spoken to you or to sulk for weeks. Sure, it is not conducive to getting performances out of the players right now but the point is that we need strong characters in the playing staff.

Ultimately we will see whether he can mould a squad over the summer and coming months but things were so bad I don’t think there was any positive spin to put on the situation.

I'm just not sure it gives players coming into the squad confidence that when things don't go our way he's not going to throw them under the bus plus there will definitely be ones who he'll keep. I guess we don't know what goes on behind closed doors either he seems a likeable character and perhaps it's just a very in the moment, which some managers are but once everything has died down have a strong relationship with their players, I'm told Jim was very much like that but Keane held grudges which doesn't create a healthy environment. Hopefully it's a case of PC just letting off steam after matches and it's clear from his comments that he knows he's a bit of a liability and an area he needs to be careful of, I've just never seen a top manager come out and say he doesn't trust his players.

Mourinho has done in the past but usually a few weeks later he's been given the boot.

I hope things will calm down abit with the new owners and CEO to provide a more supportive environment for both our players and managers because we've had a number of very experienced manager in place at the club over the past few years and they've all lost it at certain points and I think its mainly because they haven't had a good structure behind them. In this instance PC probably can't tell if he's coming or going with ME leaving, so many players out of contract, his trusty assistant elsewhere, we need a bit of stability which is why I think he needs at least 3 transfer windows.

Even if it goes badly for him I'd say it's got to be better than spending two years faffing about not making any progress.

perhaps he has chastised & b*llocked the players in private ? that hasn't worked so he does it publicly !
I don't earn a fraction of what these people do but I still get myself to work & do it to the best of my ability, because as sure as eggs are eggs I would be booted out the door if i didn,t !
these people can perform appalling week in week out & not have a care in the world ( especially the ones in the premiership).
how do you motivate a multi millionaire ?
PC must have had some idea of what he was signing up to ?

There’s a high degree of self delusion if this present bunch think they’ll pick up comparable contracts elsewhere in the summer.

What would you pay Kayden Jackson in League Two or the conference?
