All of the above, then bring is some quality, committed replacements, both on the field and CEO/DOF or whatever Nige wants.

Obviously the clearout should start with Ashton packing his bags and the rest of this motley under performing lot should be pared down to only those who give a damn. It truly breaks my City heart to see us in this mess created mostly by the blind faith given to Lee by Steve Lansdown followed by his inaction when we went on record breaking losing streaks. Lee thankfully has long left the building but the stench left in the hallways will take more than one season to eradicate and unless philosophy changes drastically I fear next season could be one filled with dread and possibly even worse. During the last 5 years how many players have been signed that were going to change the fortunes of our club only to disappear down the road to somewhere better followed quite quickly by most of our longer standing talent? Is it any wonder we are in this mess when you consider the lack of motivation there must have been working under a nothing coach who was so far up his own backside to see the problem.

I really hope that Nigel will stay but frankly I wouldn't blame him if he said it was a bridge too far even for him and it makes me shake in my boots trying to come up with any other solution within our grasp based on our less than stellar business dealings. It's do or die time for me.

Out of the above I'd keep Walsh and possibly Weimann.

The meetings and talking has started with the Lansdowns, let us hope for a quick decision!!!

Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson holds talks with Lansdown family over his long-term future

Securing a manager beyond this campaign is one of several tasks ahead of the hierarchy at Bristol City

Bristol City manager Nigel Pearson held lengthy talks with Steve and Jon Lansdown on Friday afternoon regarding his long-term future at the club, Bristol Live understands.

Pearson only has three more matches remaining under his present deal - Luton on Sunday following by Millwall and then Brentford - which was agreed in February and runs until the end of the season.

The former Leicester City and Watford manager has made it clear he would like to remain at the club and wants a three-year contract but there has been growing anxiety within the fanbase as the end of the campaign draws near.

Chairman Jon Lansdown, who has been in the Caribbean during lockdown this year, was present during the meeting in Bristol, and has been at the Robins High Performance Centre this week.

It's unclear if Guernsey-based City owner Steve Lansdown attended in person or communicated remotely with travel restrictions in the Channel Islands meaning the billionaire will have to self-isolate for two weeks and receive two negative tests upon his return to the Bailiwick.

Given Lansdown Snr wasn't at Friday night's marquee Rugby Premiership match between Bristol Bears and Exeter Chiefs at Ashton Gate, it would indicate he has remained at home. The club owner has previously said he would like to meet Pearson in person before offering him the job full-time.

This week's pre-match press briefing ahead of Sunday's clash with Luton has been scheduled for Saturday morning, in a departure from the traditional early Friday afternoon timeslot, which left Pearson's diary clear to speak with the Lansdowns.

Securing Pearson, or another candidate, as a long-term successor to Dean Holden, who was dismissed in February, is vital in lifting the growing uncertainty around City.

On the field, a run of seven games without a win has seen the Robins drift into lower mid-table amid declining performances and worrying individual displays. Indeed, over the last 30 Championship fixtures, no team has taken fewer points than the Robins 27.

Pearson has been forthright in his opinions over what has gone wrong, questioning the attitude and application of certain individuals - without naming them - and has admitted that should he be given the reins long-term, the coming summer transfer window will be a busy one.

However, the 57-year-old is also realistic as to the size of the task in transforming City into credible and consistent Premier League promotion contenders, believing it will take 4-6 transfer windows to create a squad that can perform at the requisite level.

He's retained the support of the vast majority of the fanbase, who have long coveted an established, experienced figure in the dugout they believe is the missing piece in securing a place in the top-flight.

Pearson has maintained that even though his future is to be decided, he's remained very much part of talks in discussing potential transfer targets and the contract statuses of various players.

City have 13 first-team players who become free agents in June, including frontline striker Famara Diedhiou, first-team regulars over the years in Jack Hunt, Jamie Paterson and Nathan Baker plus promising midfielder Liam Walsh.

That situation, coupled with the lack of clarity over Pearson's position beyond May 8 and the fact influential CEO Mark Ashton is leaving City on May 31 has only added to the sense of uncertainty around the club.

Nigel Pearson and Steve Lansdown meet
    Saturday, April 24th 2021

Nigel Pearson and Steve Lansdown met in person on Friday (April 23rd) to discuss the future direction of the club.

The pair have been in frequent dialogue since Pearson joined the Robins back in February, but because of COVID-19 restrictions this was the first time they have been able to meet face-to-face.

Pearson said: “It was great to meet Steve in person and something I was looking forward to. It was a very open and honest conversation and we discussed various aspects of the club which was beneficial to both of us.”

A complete waste of time, maybe trying to boost season ticket sales.

    NP on Lansdown talks
I've seen Jon twice this week and I went and met Steve yesterday. We had a really good conversation. Very enjoyable conversation - it was good to finally meet him. We're moving in the right direction.
NP on if he'll be here next season
I certainly hope so. But as we've already spoken about, I can't get away from the fact that the results at the moment aren't good enough. Those types of decisions are to a large extent up for discussion. Ou conversation was very positive and we have been in regular contact anyway. It's important to have face to face meetings as well. Steve and Jon and Bristol Sport in general has a real clear vision of what they want for all of their clubs, and in terms of the local area and community. There's been a lot of investment across all of those areas and clubs. Now what we need to deliver here is some success on the field. But to do that we need to negotiate the rest of the season and make the appropriate plans moving forward. There's a lot to be discussed.
NP on if the talks might come to fruition soon and City being at a crossroads
Crossroads give you options. That's something very important. It's very important now. Sport is an emotional game. None of us enjoy going through these difficult times in terms of poor results. What we have to do is make sure that they are for the wellbeing of the football club and the fanbase - and that we can make progressions. It's about trying to make a winning environment. Sometimes you have to go through some difficult times to find a way out of it. It's an important time for us, and sometimes when there are unanswered questions and uncertainty that can create anxiety. All I would say is that on a personal level, I'm very committed on my part to delivering success for this football club. I'm still ambitious - my ambition to succeeed is very high. The club's is too. We have to get through this period of time intact to begin with.

Is NP not convincing SL & co that he can turn us around next season? Or is it down to SL not providing the funds required......is the question!!

    Weinmann
    Walsh
    Patterson
If Baker could stay injury free he would also be in the list, but we have paid to much to him to sit on the physio table already. Time to move on!

Big decision re Nathan Baker. I like him, but how many games has he missed in the last 3 years?
Would we be better off using the wages to get a different centre back?

Pearson won't have the backing required to achieve anything better than mid table next season.
Bloody hell he'll need at least 6 top Championship players to achieve a top 6 finish. He WON'T get that backing.
We had our chance when SL appointed LJ, and he was like a kid in a sweet shop. 65 bloody wasted signings, check out the sh*t squad Pearson has to work with if anyone's in doubt.
The circumstances are totally different now, we're fu**ed.
Clubs relegated from the Premiership get £40million, check out who's going up again - they're yo-yo Clubs. And it's no wonder - they have a huge £40million start on the rest.

Forget the Premiership, bottom half will be a good result next season.
