In fairness to Levy I think he’ll do everything possible to keep Kane and he’ll make it an utter nightmare in negotiations for any club bidding but it’s whether he’ll eventually cave or not. Either way, I want the new manager to want to join Spurs regardless of Kane’s future. If they know they’re having Kane they’ll look to build around him, if they believe he’s going then they’ll look to build Spurs from another angle. Though the latter is something you don’t really want to think about when looking at the rest of this squad and recent history with transfers.
He's England captain, our best player, leader and one of our own. Three years ago, he signed a SIX year contract. Up to two years ago, it was entirely believable and possible possible that he'd want to stay for the whole of his career. Those days are over. The club's failed to match the potential of 2016 and we all know what that looks like - it's what happened to Bale, Modric, Berbatov, Sheringham, etc. Your best players go elsewhere to win stuff and we start again from scratch.
There's no rush. I'd rather take a month and get it right than rush it to get people off the chairman's back and **** it up.
You've definitely got a thing for pale, black-haired girls Brian, but I'm not sure about your chances, to be honest. How's your acting? Premier League quality?
Spurs fans have been obsessed with him leaving for the past four years, including on here (and, no, I'm not counting DGC in that...) and it's weird Seriously, I've seen people respond to us selling youth team players saying that Harry will be next, as if there's any correlation between the two
I agree with you but the likes of Potter and Parker won’t necessarily be the future for me. Good managers for mid table- relegation PL sides but I don’t seem them good enough for Spurs (yet)
I've got slightly more chance with them than Levy did of getting Nagelsmann.... which was none at all. Acting? I'm too old and knackered for being anything other than the grumpy git that I am. Don't grow old, kids.
I doubt giving the board a week or a month makes much difference with decisions these days, it’ll probably the wrong one anyway knowing our luck, lol.
I think it was either Dan Kilpatrick or Alasdair Gold who said that Scott Parker isn't in the frame for the job right now, but the club are keeping an eye on him for the future I've also seen Wolfsburg coach Oliver Glasner linked, albeit by some Italian muckraker (no, not Fabrizio Romano, another one), although while they are sitting third in the Bundesliga and playing some good stuff they're also naive at the back so it's worth asking if their position has more to do with Dortmund, Leverkusen, Hoffenheim and Schalke all conspiring to have ****e seasons at the same time
You're sort of on the right track, when ENIC came in we were the Co-op and were trying to compete with Tesco etc. Now we are Waitrose but still get bullied by the bigger companies. ENIC were the first owner we've had to see that we had the potential to be the biggest club around and everything they do is driven by that. Their hands are tied on spending by ffp though. You are on record as saying that you want us to ignore the rules....I really don't see the point in following sport if that is your view. Wanting ENIC to spend more misses the point. In the end nearly every penny we spend will be recovered from the fans in one way or another. That's why we need a bigger fanbase and more commercial income. The only other source of income is other sports or events at the stadium once Covid restrictions are lifted.
Parker I’d agree as he’s still very new in management and this is his first role. Potter’s a bit different though, he’s been a manager for about 10 or so years now and is at his 3rd club. He’s earned praise from both Guardiola and Bielsa for his style and management, which I think bodes well as they’re two managers whose styles of play fans enjoy. His xG stats at Brighton is also very promising and makes you wonder what he could do with higher calibre personnel. He’s obviously still a risk due to the fact he’s not managed a top club before but the only way he’ll ever prove himself is if someone gives him a chance. Ten Hag is probably my ideal choice but I’d have zero qualms if Potter took charge.
its a tough one, especially around the timing of when/if Levy “caves in”. If Kane is going to depart, he’s got to be replaced in the best possible way with the best possible alternative option in that process. We could end up facing a dilemma where if we sell him early, other clubs know we’ve got funds, but if we do it too late, we may struggle to have a remotely suitable replacement late in the window. Personally I don’t think the latter is possible, as the former will be hard enough, even with time on our side. The euro’s will also make transfers a nightmare this summer, so as you say, building from an entirely new angle (and perhaps a new playing style with the right personnel) may be our only option. - and if this is the case, the manager we bring in will have to be the correct one for this process, and bloody smart themselves. Not to mention Steve Hitchen will need to start ****ing enjoying the transfer window and pull his finger out of his arse.
When it comes to Parker, it strikes me as the exact sort of deal Levy will go for. I don’t necessarily think he’ll be his first choice, but it stinks of Levy. Parker is a fans favourite, and one that could be prized away from a relegation bound club, who also happen to have a decent CB that may follow suit, solving another of our problems. Levy would also be able to get him in on the cheap due to his inexperience, and in terms of location it’s an easier one to get over the line in terms of Parker’s personal circumstances, with him already based at a London club.
Parker as manager would be a huge mistake and for me would show real lack of ambition Joachim Andersen would cost a lot of money and rival clubs are also interested in him.
Parker would be a mistake, but I don't think Andersen would be that expensive. He's only on loan and French football has no money.
Add to that Lyon seem keen to offload him, given they were happy to loan him to Fulham Obviously there's the part where he's contracted until 2024, which in theory swings negotiations back in Lyon's favour - but we can counter with how we helped them meet FFP criteria for at least another season when we signed Ndombele a couple of years back
You are talking as if FFP is worth the paper it is written on, it isn`t, various clubs have proved that. There are only 2 or 3 English clubs with a larger fan base than Spurs. I don`t want ENIC to do anything apart from to fack off out of Spurs, because they won`t ever win us any silverware.
