In the last 18 months the club has failed with Mauricio Pochettino and then Mourinho as coach....the penny is beginning to drop that something's not right in the state of Denmark. Either we employ an established, experienced manager, who's not getting work for good reason (like Mourinho) or we take a punt on a young talent. I don't want Benitez or Allegri, nor anyone without any PL experience, nor anyone who can't speak English, so it's Potter or Parker or someone used to working with no money, who might see us as something other than a basket case.. Most of our best managers had no experience or very little, other than coaching. Let's get some identity back.
Whilst I was praying for the pipe dream of Nagelsman originally, my expectations were realistic. Ten Hag would have been a potential risk, but I grew to wanting him more purely on the basis of “we’ve got nothing to lose”, as things are such a **** show at the moment. In fact, my expectations are currently so low, to think of having a progressive Dutch manager who’s produced a decent Ajax side felt more appealing by the day. Also knowing he promoted youth players added to this. Even he’s decided he’s best where he is, and in all honestly I thought he’d be our man after the reports in the last few days. As things have unfolded in the last couple of weeks, there’s clear evidence that there was no plan in place whatsoever to indicate Levy had something in the pipeline, knowing he was going to sack Mourinho. It was all about money and not letting Mourinho walk away with more in compensation if he won a trophy. so basically we’re left with very few options, which include Southgate and Howe in that mix. Managers who clearly aren’t the first choice from the evidence we’ve already seen in what’s been reported. I think Graham Potter has done a great job at Brighton. However, that transition to us where he’ll be managing a club with different aims and targets, as well as potentially juggling Europe as a total novice, doesn’t fill be with confidence. It’s an experiment. I’m not saying he’s not capable, but it’s a completely different pressure. Then there’s how the players will feel. Will they think that the appointment doesn’t show ambition? Will they feel uninspired? Could an appointment like that be the final straw for the likes of Kane and Son to look elsewhere? I’m honestly struggling to think who we are going to get that will please the majority of our fan base, as well as the players. This appointment is huge, and as each day passes it’s looking more and more like our options are not only limited, but potentially pointless appointments. I’m starting to wonder whether we’re better off giving it to Ryan Mason.
Exactly, I’m not his number one fan but he’s a steady fan and well respected I really don’t get why people want Graham Potter
Potter's teams play decent football, but they don't score many goals. A lot of people think it's because of his forwards and having better players would solve his problems. I'm not convinced. Maupay, Welbeck and Connolly are all decent and they've managed 14 between them. When does that become something that's down to the coach and not individuals?
Now that we're back to the drawing board, what are people's thoughts on Dean Smith? Or, to ask that question in a more palatable form for DH: What are people's thoughts on Dean Smith bringing Super Jack with him?
I'm not sure about that PNP. Brighton create loads of good chances per game. Just a quick look at the stats this year...they're 7th in the league for shots per game (13), well above us in 13th (11). At the other end of the pitch they are 9th on goals conceded and 4th on shots faced (we are 8th on goals conceded and 12th on shots faced!). Put a Kane or Son in that team and there is every chance they'd be comfortably in the top half. The stats suggest Potter is a phenomenal coach and motivator. The opposite of Maureen basically. The big, big question is whether he can handle the pressures of a much bigger gig.
Chances aren't all the same, though. Some teams create a lot of poor quality chances and take shots from anywhere. If you've got a bunch of strikers and they're all failing to put the ball in the net, then that's on the manager. Either you've signed crappy finishers or you're doing something wrong elsewhere, either in training or on the pitch.
Any candidate who wants full control of transfers should be shown the door immediately. It's a full time job being the coach.
For who is the penny dropping Bri? I don’t think the owners care and will crack on dealing with us as a football club like they always have...sniffing around bargain basement. So long as we have fans reminding us that life could be worse and we could be one of the extreme dogshit clubs, ENIC will carry on pull8mg the same old tricks out of the same old sleeves. The state of the clueless ****...makes me cringe watching our club trying to get a manager in, knowing full well he’s going to shaft him in the long run. it matters not who we get...a bit of ‘entertainment’ aside...same old story. It wasn’t just a bad mood last week I hope when everyone wanted ENIC out...the useless kaants will balls everything up once again...even if they get the ‘right man’, they will suffocate his ambition due to a lack of serious backing and we will all pile in on the gaffer.
If Levy appoints Benitez, we may as well play in navy blue and white stripes and call ourselves Newcastle Hotspur...because that'll be where we're heading.
