Have to agree on oscar movies and also there is a trend that best actor goes to someone who does something extreme rather than actual good acting performance. At one point it was the anorexia award for example. It's certainly an in crowd awards ceremony so the movies have to tick boxes the great unwashed like me dont really care about
I disagree with some points, I think the films in general are very good but the awards seem to land in strange places and that's where I agree with the extreme performance or scene you point towards.
meh, its ok. The overall story is very simple and frankly it was pretty predictable to know what would happen next. It also has alot of dull moments. Its oscar buzz is purely down to Riz Ahmed.
Promising Young Woman ... went into this expecting a lecture on gender politics and how not to be a man etc, there is some of that but it's well balanced with other stuff; I was actually surprised by this film, it's a very good psychological revenge thriller with horror elements that works really well and hits the mark
Not incredibly insightful but he dies show the 1990s Oscar movies and imo these are a lot better in part due to just plain being popular compared to some these days Of the past 10 years, maybe birdman? Deserved the award. Not sure about 12 years a slave tbh but again politically it's the easy choice same as moonlight but a lot of them have been up their own backside type stuff. Like how the f did argo get best picture. Of green book over the 3 or 4 really good movies nominated
Kind of agree with you about the story, it telegraphs a lot of what's going to happen, but I think I'm more favourable towards it than this and thought it was quite good. I found some scenes very moving and the photography and way it's shot at times is very nice. My main problem was that most of the characters, apart from RA's and the veteran guy running the refuge (great performance there btw), were purely incidental and very superficially presented. I wouldn't say I found it dull at any point, I thought it was pretty economical and did what it needed to do in the chosen space. Most of the buzz I saw was about its sound editing which tbf is impressive, but I agree with what your sentiment gets at about the gushing industry praise and how earth shattering it might be etc etc
It should've ended a couple of seasons ago. The last one was dire, this one has been better but it's total overkill and got really convoluted. The earlier seasons were quite gripping. I don't know if there are plans for another but they should just stop at this point
Yeah enjoyed the early seasons of it but it's so popular right now and utterly terrible, this season was pretty good throughout then there's the ending.
The way we have been watching it is on gogglebox. Why? First it shows just how much bbc push as they pay a rival show to follow it avidly Second it insulates me from the inevitable long winded twist where h won't ever be revealed and constant stupid cliff hangers. It'll go on 10 season min imo
Agree. It's a victim of it's own success and growth. Once a show realises it has to appeal to the slack jawed masses it's usually ****ed
Yeah the ending tonight was trying very hard not to be a cliffhanger but still kinda was. Symptomatic of a show that's now just being written on the fly. Of course the thing that made it so good originally was that it felt so tight, intricately laid out and full of direction. The concept was done a couple of seasons ago and it's mostly a meandering mess now, sprinkled with some moments of legit high drama, but that's meaningless without real focus.
Its comissioned for at least one more series, whether they go ahead and make it is a different matter. The writer/creator himself seems more interested in trying new stuff, Bodyguard, Bloodlands and I see theres another one coming soon about a Sub.
The anger on Twitter, the disappointment that H was revealed to be Ian Buckells is all misled. How can such a weak character be him? I'm telling you, someone higher up is pulling his strings. My money was on the wee donkey to be honest, but I was wrong.
imo He wasn't really H though. There's never been a H. He was just what was left of the corrupt group, he explained that at different times different people where in charge and when they got caught he was just sort of left behind to keep it going, prior to that he just been a go between.
There was a line from someone who suggested that he was allowed into that position of authority by higher powers dispute his incompetence. So corruption higher up is suggested, we already knew that and thought that's what would be revealed by catching H. But that was missed by the people who made the show. Also did anyone pick up on time line from Kate? "I don't know what's going on but someone's behind all this." 9 years, it was nice of her to pick up on that.
I don't think he's H, either. I think it's someone else. Too many unanswered questions. On another note, my thread was merged before I had a chance to delete it as I remembered too late there was a telly thread
Watched it last night, I just don't care enough to think about it beyond watching it once and giving it the necessary attention for an hour. It's just a tv show, it entertains when it's there (sometimes) outside of that it's fairly inconsequential
