DD it was me who spelt Hanley’s name wrong! Incidentally, is there a thread for Alex Tettey and the notion that he should be given legend status? If there is I have missed it.

Longest serving player up there with Wes and Adam Drury.

He deserves a testimonial but without fans it's shallow...

    Tettey only scores Bangers <cool>

I did that, too, and you held on to it like a Pit Bull.

Dunno, but a lot of posters also called him Handley. I got so peeved by it I took it one step further and changed his name from Hanley to Handley to Hoadley after our former centre half Phil Hoadley. Kinda stuck with me.

Ryan Gauld is the latest player we are rumoured to be interested in.

25 year old former Dundee United player now playing for Farnese in Liga Nos after a move to Sporting which saw his career stall.

Gauld is a number 10, Once rated as the future of Scottish football before his move to Sporting, he has played 29 times for the newly promoted side Farense this season scoring 6 and getting 8 assists

Gauld appears to be out of contract this summer. Plays predominantly at CAM but could be cover in wider areas too.

Perhaps an inexpensive way to replace Stiepermann or Vrancic with a younger player who may still be developing and be able to become a Prem player, but would probably hang around for a Championship season.

I'm slightly underwhelmed by this link. Hoping for signings that excite the senses rather than journeymen.

I agree with you GE, but how often are we fans wrong? Who can honestly say they were excited by signing Pukki, who might also have been labelled a 'journeyman' at the time we got him? Who among us expected Buendia to be a genius? Whereas a lot of us got very excited about RVW (including yours truly). Even more deluded, we got excited about Naismith, who I would personally list as the worst signing we have ever made in my lifetime (and I'm old).

Having been wrong so often about Farke, I'm happy to go with whoever he and Webber see slotting into this team.

There is said to be a lot of interest from the bottom half PL teams, who knows how much of this is just his agent putting his name about as his contract is coming to its end though. It would certainly be a Webber/Farke type signing similar to Leitner - giving a player a chance to rebuild their career after early promise has not quite materialised.

And now another very similar in the form of Ryan Christie is reported in the EDP. Like Gauld, he's an AM who can also play on the flanks. His contract is up next January (though transfermarkt say it's 31 May) so Celtic are said to be prepared to sell.

    https://www.transfermarkt.co.uk/ryan-christie/profil/spieler/188077

As with Gauld, he could be seen as a replacement for Buendia, Cantwell, Stiepermann or Vrančić. He's got 18 caps for Scotland, his scoring and assist stats are better than Gauld's and he's valued at £8.2m, so wouldn't come cheap).

    Great servants to the club.
Tettey a real legend, but Vrancic is one of my favourite players. Never thought he got the recognition he deserved.

Both fantastic servants for the club and a real shame to see them both leave. Unfortunately I’m not sure Tettey could handle another year in the PL, although I though that last time and he was decent.
Super Mario has been amazing since his tough start at the club, the goals he scored in the first promotion season were incredible and vital! Didn’t get enough of a chance in the PL last time for me. No doubting his technical ability but he is maybe a bit lightweight and didn’t quite have the legs.

I feel a bit sad about this, but I guess there's no room for sentiment in football.

Vrançic was the kind of player I like. Classy, technically gifted, great vision, did more with one pass than many players do with twenty. Tettey has been an amazing servant of the club and just seemed to get better as time went on. I'd also like to add Quintilla, who for me, as I've said a couple of times on here, has been fantastically professional even when it was clear that the move wasn't going to work out the way everyone hoped. Sad to see them all go, and let's hope they all have a bright future.

Well said all of the above. I can't help feeling that the squad looks a lot thinner after the loss of these three, especially Vrančić and Tettey. The answer is of course the players who will be coming in to replace them. After the limited impact of new signings last season though, mostly on loan, I'm a bit wary of how this will turn out.

I think for me, despite Pukki's goals and Buendia's talent, Vrancic is the defining player of the 18/19 promotion for me. He scored his fair share of memorable goals, but it feels like every late team goal we scored had Vrancic as the architect with a key pass or flick. Cometh the moment, Cometh the Mario intervention.

Unfortunately he's not really hit those heights consistently since, even though he's had excellent moments - especially this season. I'd have kept him in the squad for next season, but only really for 80th minute sub appearances when we need a moment of magic. Nobody in our squad at the moment offers that like Mario. But from the club's perspective, it's quite a luxury to spend wages and a squad spot on someone that might only play 100 minutes or so next season, and from Mario's perspective he can still be a first team starter elsewhere and I definitely don't begrudge him the opportunity.

Looking forward to seeing what he does next, I'll certainly be keeping an eye out for him. Hope to see more free-kicks and inch-perfect passes in the Bundesliga or wherever next season.

The lad in the light blue Adidas top front and centre was all of us when Tettey hammered in that goal. Happy memories.
