Off Topic Snooker world championship

So Murphy tried to whip the crowd up with fist pumps. Perhaps next year he could go further by bringing over cheerleaders from the USA.

 

It's a while since I followed snooker.

I was there for the afternoon session - really enjoyed the experience . I wasn’t bothered who won , so happy that they drew 4-4 whilst I was there

 

Bet the atmosphere was electric

 

Atmosphere looked canny. Nice to see sporting events with crowds back in mind.

 

Yes it was . If you saw program introduction where Mark Taylor said “ and now you’ll hear the crucible roar like never before” - it was really hairs on the neck job. Even the little rehearsal for it was amazing . Great experience to see the background bits that you don’t see on tv, and being in a crowd after so long , really enjoyed

 

I used to follow it many years ago and play a bit but lost interest .

 

Many years ago I was a pretty good pool player
However my highest snooker break was 42
I never could master the snooker
My mate was 65+ player and the brother in law was equal as him they regularly played at George wood snooker Gateshead

 

I can only dream of a 42 break.

 

Absolutely loved this championship. Selby was awesome and a very worthy winner. All credit to Murphy too for making a real fight of it.

 

I absolutely loved it as a kid.
I used to play pool at the local pub when I was 9 or 10
Me mam and dad used to take me to the pub and one of the young lads give me a game and I took to it like a duck to water.
Me mam used to give me 10p for the pool with me crisps and pop, winner stays on I started beating everyone and some would get annoyed
Then one day at the local British legion and a "left in the car with pop and crisps whilst ya da drinks day", me dad fetched me in the club as there was only the steward and another bloke in.

The fookin tables man, couldn't keep me eyes off em.
I'd seen them through the windows but standing next to them was awesome.
Asked me dad if I could play but said kids weren't allowed.
He gave me a game of pool instead and I think the steward said since it was quiet and I could play he'd let me.

I had an eye for potting a ball and could see it like a line in me vision.
Same with angles off the cushions.
Me dad started taking me regular when it was quiet, (he played for the A team)
Then a bloke who was a mate of me dad and ex welsh amateur champion said he'd coach me.
But other blokes started taking their kids and damage and unruly kids put paid to it.

I took it up again early teens and signed for the B team.
All old blokes (well to me ) but canny fellas.
Then I met girls and everyone knars where that gets you


Funny enough, sorting me dads house now I found both our snooker cues behind the coat stand in the hall.

Couldn’t watch it with Selby at the table. Not sure I’ve seen a more boring player to watch. Effective but awful! If he’s a jester, think the king must be blind and deaf to keep him employed!

Wilson and Murphy was an excellent game. But watching someone stand and look at a table for 3 minutes, then play the first shot he lined up?? No thank you

 

I used to follow it many years ago and play a bit but mine never needed chalk on the end i preferred it wet
