Neither am I, but the idea was decent and he played pretty well in most of his games. Should've been used as backup for Kane, but the two games that he started were alongside him, for some obscure reason.
He suffered from exactly the same problem that Janssen did....He isn't Harry Kane. There is no point in signing alternatives if the manager won't use them or won't adjust the way we play to take advantage of what they can do, as opposed to highlighting what they can't. He wasn't Harry Kane, nor was the last chump. I'm going to add in that, for all of his physical stature, Vinnie II was hardly the beast of a centre forward that Mourinho likes. By the time Mourinho's stay was done, he definitely had the look of a player who was the least worst option available by the time we got round to thinking about a striking option....plus he was cheap, that would have been very important....very, very important.
Being cheap is fairly important though, if you're never going to actually play the bloke! Whoever we sign isn't going to be Harry Kane. Harry Kane isn't Harry Kane at the moment, FFS. That's the issue, though. There are times when he's not fit or shouldn't play and we need someone else. Having someone that can play at the same time as him, yet can still fill in for him would be ideal. And probably impossible.
It has to be said that we have made it look impossible but if you allocate a budget of **** all to finding a decent striker....is anyone going to be surprised when you come up empty? By all accounts, Ollie Watkins was ready to come to Spurs. We didn't make it happen...again...but Levy kept Winks and Dele, who the manager didn't want. As I said a while back, I wish the new manager luck...he's sure going to need it.
He's an Arsenal fan. We've got more than enough of them already and they all seem to have a **** attitude, perhaps unsurprisingly.
I think the problem with the others is that they're utter **** and we bought them because Levy wouldn't spring for the players that the manger wanted, not who they supported as kids.
Villa were willing to pay up to £33m for a starting striker We were not willing to pay up to £33m for a bench option It's almost as if there's a small detail that people keep missing there...
Only if you think 2 dimensionally, if Levy had agreed to sell Dele, which is what Moirinho wanted, we could have bought Watkins, Arsenal fan or not. Does anyone really think that Dele would have been missed? Our bench regularly has players on it that cost more than Watkins.
Our bench regularly features players signed to play in the first team who cost more than Watkins, not players signed to be on the bench And let's be honest here: when the options being offered to a player are regular football, or cameos off the bench, unless they're being offered ridiculous wages to sit on their backside for a season or two no player is going to take the second option
Are you writing that with a straight face? Look at our big money signings. I'm struggling to think of a single one who hasn't been on the bench more than not. Blowing just £33m on someone who looks like he could actually last 3 consecutive games in the first team without breaking down, exhausting himself or giving goals away for fun, would make him our biggest transfer success in years. I can't prove it but, bless him, Watkins wanted to come to Spurs...and he genuinely could have played with, or instead of Kane
We should've listened to someone on here that I won't mention and signed him from Exeter's U21s about five years ago.
Yes, I am writing that with a straight face Because the likes of Lamela, Ndombele etc were signed for our first team, not to sit on the bench Or the fact various players were happy to waste a year or two of their careers on the bench of Chelsea or The Sheikh Mansour team entirely because of the wages making it worth their while to sit on their backsides doing nothing The real question is whether or not you have a straight face trying to compare paying £30m+ for a first team regular to paying £30m+ for someone who would get cameos off the bench as if we have every done that
Joined-Up Transfer Watch In one corner there's our oft-rumoured interest in signing Jerome Boateng when his contract at Bayern expires this summer In the other corner there's the suggestion that Davinson Sanchez could be headed back to Ajax this summer Surely the two things are connected? And also happen to be a way to get an extra £25m+ in the transfer kitty?
So two things 1.) They could've mentioned the suspected broken foot that Skippy's returning with 2.) Norwich are going to need some midfield depth, as Vrancic rotates with Kenny McClean while Tettey is the late game spoiler. Don't suppose they'll be willing to accept Sissoko as part of a deal for Max Aarons?
With the ''success'' of recent years with our recruitment of strikers, we'd be far more better off not bothering to bring anyone in and promote the academy players. They'll get just as much playing time, they'll gain experience, they'll be cheaper and so we can spend on positions we need and they count as home grown . We have Troy and Dane. Give them their chance to step up.
Cant replace him...we’re ****ed when he goes. No way in a million years under ENIC would we be bidding for a player like Harry Kane if he was available...but we have him...we are so lucky he came through the ranks or can you imagine how **** we would be? Im talking Arsenal levels **** and that’s where we are headed when he leaves because I have full confidence in Levy blowing that money. Even if we spend it in improving the obvious weak spots, that is defence...a midfielder at best thrown in aswell...then have we improved? Who’s scoring the goals? So we get a goal scorer...whos replacing Harry’s numbers? Whoever it is doesn’t dream of playing for us because we are talking Mbappe/Haaland levels.
If Kane does go this summer there'll be anarchy in Tottenham. Even more so when Che Adams is his replacement.
Thoughts on Raul Jimenez? Obviously not Kane's level but if we sort out what's behind him, there aren't many better strikers leading the line than him...if he fully recovers from his injury that is.
