I do it for stress relief mate but realise it gets me more depressed.
I come on here all sentimental talking shìte at night.
I've been off work since my dad passed and hit the bottle every night but I think it makes it worse.
I want to get back on my bike as that helps but drink makes me lazy. I'd Just like to enjoy a drink now and then socially rather than relying on it.
    I know i don't need it.
Sounds like your in a rut mate and need to sort your underlying problem.
Drink isn't the answer as you've discovered.

Nothing to be embarrassed about, had family who were, it is a disease & you have taken a massive step like others have said by admitting it, understand you have had few difficult years as you mention, but to be fair i think a lot of people who might have been close will have been pushed over the edge this last year.

You have registered with the support you need & that means your willing to change, sounds like you have family support too, you have already started the process of recovery, no doubt dark days ahead, stay positive & you will come through, dont be afraid as you havent tonight to speak up when your struggling

    good luck mate

Thanks everyone, feel a lot better for admitting my demons, thanks especially to @Nig for his replies with all he is going through.

Feel quite humbled that through safc I have people supporting me on this journey

You may be right, but habit soon becomes to much and the fact I'm hiding stuff means I need to admit my issues

Best wishes for your journey, the first step of which you've already taken, you're on your way. Take pride with each step covered, you know you are better and stronger than a liquid that wants to control you. You WILL defeat it, and don't forget loads of mates on here willing you their support, either openly or in private message if you need to talk

@Chunksafc ask yourself this? If you were Ill and the doctor prescribed you antibiotics which you could 100% not drink alchohol could you do it, I bet you could to get well, would you be classed as alchohol dependant if admitted to a ward?

The thought of not having a drink on a night stresses me as I feel like I need it to relax

Hiding as in, sneaking a drink during the day or walking back from the shop

Usually tea time, work out the way for the day and a pint or a little bottle of wine.

I can't drink spirits, the thought makes me heave lol

Ok so that’s still not alchohic stuff mate, more a state of mind, you will shock yourself if you decide **** it I’m going to bed without a drink, you will toss and turn but will eventually drop off, it’s habitual but concerning I’m in exactly the same boat but have just done a course of antibiotics with no alchohol and it was weird but not impossible

every single one of us has a weakness mate, for some its alcohol, drugs, tobacco, chocolate, (really dirty sex :emoticon-0105-wink:) but there's always help out there, now more than ever. good luck with AA meeting, take all the advice and respect yourself for seeking help. You will have better times ahead.

It’s 100% habit mate, I’ve been drinking every night for 25, I used to smoke 30 tabs a day and packed in just over 3 years ago, I would suggest that the reason you are getting anxious about it is that subconsciously it is starting to affect your physical or mental health, this lock down ****e has not helped drinkers at all

you can go to bed without a drink, it’s nowt like trainspotting

Wish I could pack I the tabs as well. You may well be right, I'm not getting any younger, my dad has his first heart attack at 43 and I'm 46 this year, overweight and until a month ago stressed with work all the time

I don't think your an alcoholic mate. But your worried about your excessive drinking so thats a good sign.
I was drinking a ltr of vodka a night years ago but didn't drink during the day.
I'm drinking every night now but night shift stops me during the week.
Can you focus on doing something else for a few nights instead of drinking every one ?
