We were over for a midweek night game at Hillsboro and they(police/stewards) seemed to not have learned from the disaster. They held us outside and there was a build up behind us. I'm not saying that we were ever in danger, but you could see how things could have got out of hand quickly.
Did I read somewhere that nearly the same thing happened to Leeds fans and fans of another club in the same end prior to the Hillsboro tragedy.
The facts that liverpool fans without tickets went to the game. People were crushed by their own supporters as well.
You try getting your facts straight blameless liverpool once again. Crushed their own but police took full blame for it.
I heard a guy on the radio many years after hillborough. He was crying and admitted he was one of those pushing from the back to get in.
Justice for the 96 was about police failure to control the thugs without tickets. Then the police lied in statements about the 96 and made things up. Plus the police failed to open the cages to let them on to the pitch. But the police did not cause the crush that was liverpool fans.
Another factor that was never mentioned at any inquest was that Liverpool were notorious for forcing the gates to gain entry to games around that time, on the tuesday night before Hillsborough Liverpool played at Millwall, anyone who ever went to the old Den will know the away end was a pen in the corner of the Ilderton Road end roughly holding about 2,000, for that game I had never seen it so packed, the crowd were swaying throughout the game. I found out after the game that just on kick off the gates went through and hundreds got in, this was confirmed a couple of years later when I spoke to a London based Liverpool fan who proudly spoke of not paying to attend a game for over three seasons, he was at Hillsborough, he wouldn't accept being responsible for what happened in anyway, it was the 'Bizzies' fault because they were clueless.
Yes Shaks but they had changed the way away supporters came in by the late eighties, too many bushwacking incidents
I must have been lucky that day. I remember the coppers saying even if you're a neutral they won't want you in the home end. Anyway me and bruv in law paid in at the away end with the forest fans. I remember the section nearest us were full of wally kids, ffs mad as ****. It was in the early eighties, think it was a League game. I've a programme somewhere around. Must say I didn't see any trouble, but then again I wasn't looking for any. I just remember driving to the ground, going past red bricked flats and then turning in under a tunnel where there was a car park. My memory ain't great, so correct me if I'm talking bollox.
Weren't too hot about stopping away fans going in the home end mind you I didn't have anything to shout about, Leeds never looked like scoring Had to pretend to like the 'banter' from the knuckle draggers around me just to fit in ffs Not an enjoyable experience
At least you could use the same accent. I had to put a Geordie one on just to stop getting a slap. The thick ****s
There was the tunnel to get into the carpark, another tunnel just before the turnstiles and if you came in from the Cold Blow Lane end there were tunnels everywhere, I can see how visitors could find it intimidating
Let's be honest nearly every team in the 70's/80's had a crew large and small who could be classed as knuckleheads. Leeds, scum, Everton,Boro, forest, whu, etc etc with a lot of away matches where you had to have your wits about you, it was accepted that you could come across trouble like it or not, it was just how it was ....oh forgot the wall as well !
Didn't they charge the gates at 2005 Champions League final in Istanbul and again in Athens two years later? I vaguely remember people talking about it down the local at the time. Was it ever confirmed?
Facts? These are the facts, you clueless ignorant prick https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/uk-england-36138337
