The HDM is a **** rag, there's plenty of things to pull them up on, but never having City as the lead story is quite obviously nonsense and please stop taking everything as a personal attack.

There's really no need to overstate things, it's like Ulrika claiming that Burnsy said relegation was good for Grimsby, he quite obviously wouldn't say something that stupid, but plenty who don't like Burnsy were happy to accept it as true anyway.

I just don't think there's any reason to exaggerate these things, when there's generally plenty of genuine things to be critical of. Just my opinion.

Dave Burns did say that. In sharp contrast to the way he bullied Grant McCann after virtually every game live on air last season towards the end when relegation looked on.
I realise he was trying to provoke listeners to ring in, which is the BBC policy, but he was very upbeat about GY's relegation from the Football League. Probably trying to put a bit of gloss on the relegation, which I think is a disaster for the town and club but he was certainly trying to get across that it was actually good news for the club.
Do you honestly think if it were Hull City and not GY losing their league status is it would be seen as a positive ? Just my opinion.
For the record I have time for Dave Burns and know him personally.

I listened to the show and he did not claim that relegation was good news for Grimsby, relegation is never good news, it would have been a ridiculous thing to say.

He just said that now they'd gone down, hopefully the new owners would come in and Grimsby fans would be able to look back on this time, as a new beginning, the time when things finally turned around and they'd be on the up again.

As you've replied before I could edit my original post, we are now not too far apart. So you are agreeing that he was not all doom and gloom, like he was when we went down, and he even admits he didn't fancy us at all this season, but was upbeat about GY losing their league status ? There were two ways to cover GY's relegation, doom and gloom, bad for the town etc or put a positive spin on it and be upbeat about it being a new dawn etc ?

As a football fan, there's nothing worse than seeing your club go out of the football league, so I'm sure there was an element of trying to put a positive spin on a fairly desperate situation.

Though I suspect that had our relegation led to us getting new owners, it might well have been reported in the same way.

Accept that. Personally I cannot think of anything in football that is worse then your club losing its league status and It very nearly happened to Hull City. A friend of mine was the person responsible for seeking out Fish and handing them a loan for £250k, payable against the future sale of players ( Windass and Fettis) which saved us from a similar fate at the High Court. Fish wasn't capable of finding anyone himself. We were so close to being wound up.
GY case is worse in my opinion because they have gone out on form and lost the main benefactor. Fenty may not have been the most popular man in Cleethorpes but he did bankroll the club. The positive spin on new owners etc is all very good but it's bums on seats and results on the pitch that will eventually see them return to the FL, they hope, but nothing is certain and it took them five years ( or was it seven?) to do it last time with a millionaire backing them. Talk is cheap. Actual money on the table isn't.

Back to RL again. And not even stories about the local teams. I am sure the people of Hull are agog with excitement knowing what has happened to a RL coach in the USA. https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/

Some local papers are good and supportive of their local teams. Unfortunately anyone employed in the local media seems to go through a brainwashing process that instils in that Hull is a rugby "town".

I'm not sure Fenty did much bankrolling, the total debt run up by Grimsby during his tenure was only £1.5m, the new owners look to have more coin than him, though it sounds like they're not about to throw a fortune at it either (though a new ground now looks more likely and we know how much that can kickstart things).

I don't think I ever heard David Burns "bully" Grant McCann. I thought he did a very professional job in asking him the searching questions we were all asking. For the record I don't know David Burns personally and I do like his coverage of City.

    Just my opinion of course.

Why do you think RH lost the broadcasting rights to commentary of the games ?

Possibly, but it could be argued our performance had somewhat "crossed a line" at the time.

Buy the paper edition, tight git! :emoticon-0100-smile Today's full back page, save for a very small section, is City related, as are the two inside pages. After that the Buggery League has two and a half pages, between the clubs.

The laughing emoji might have given away, to the more perceptive, that I was joking.
Disappointed you haven't organised a crowd funding though.
