UK and French war ships face off against one another around Jersey.

    About Fishing.

IIRC the famous V sign came about when English Archers held up two fingers to a French army, to show they had their fingers and could use their bows.

A little made up propaganda apparently.
3 fingers required to draw the long bow.

Hardly warships, two British patrol boats armed with small cannon and 7.62 GPMG, good enough to wipe out the stinking French pirates though. Lol.

Wonder what loopy things the fishermen have in store, I seem to recall some stink with French farmers a while back, they were burning cows for some reason or other.

Interesting I was listening to someone from Jersey on this today and it's not been covered I don't think in that video.

It appears Jersey has applied their own additional rules, that they claim they are entitled to do, now I don't know if that is legally correct - but what they said, some French fishing boats are trying to get permits for areas they've never fished in.

It appears the lay of the sea for fishing has changed, for wind farms and environmental reasons, and it appears French fishing boats can no longer fish in those areas, so they are trying to make geographically claims over other areas, and Jersey are saying no, you can't do that, just because your own area is no longer productive.

Anyhow, I've no way of knowing if that is true, but what a representative for the Jersey fishing boats said, was we are giving these licences for free, in some cases they are normally £250k to purchase, that is what it would cost a Jersey fishing vessel, and anyway they claim the French haven't exactly been playing ball with them either.

Then you have the threats, blockade of the harbour and threats to cut the power supply, the representative of Jersey said if you did that to some other countries in the world it would be akin to a declaration of war.

As for the administration, the French do the administration and some Jersey representatives agree they were poorly detailed, the answer to that was take it up with the French authorities not us, we didn't print them.

Personally I think our navy should just drag a few French fishing boats under just for the crac.

The French take their Political Protesting rather more seriously than we tend to.

Farmers using their tractors to block cities and their Fishermen blockade their ports.
The Citerzenry are still having their regular 'Yellow Vest' outings, and it's up to the French people and Government how they handle this, but for their Fishermen to decide to blockade a foreign port just has to be against International Law.

It looks as if this will die down, for now, but in a few years time further restriction will come into the picture.
Somewhere along the line a firm hand will be needed, unless we are just going to throw in the towel in the first round.

I have never quite grasped the point why anyone thought it was a good idea that public utilities, that are a natural monopoly not able to have competition, had to be sold off to the highest bidder to make profits. Water, power etc

They were sold off to raise funds to subsidise tax breaks for the wealthy. Thanks again Maggie.
