I am going to say Col is....
there have been less than 30 deaths in NZ due to coronovirus.

Their economy is flourishing without mammoth handouts that will need to be repaid.

They do not have an increase in suicides.

And they have not lived under the Coronovirus bill (2020) or the Police Bill (2021)..

We will always differ in our views.. and you have some one to follow and laud.
    Congratulations

13.1 billion of taxpayers money so far is quite a mammoth handout
Coronavirus: Grant Robertson puts billion-dollar price tag on new wage subsidy extension

Auckland's two weeks at pandemic alert level 3 will cost the taxpayer about another $1 billion in wage subsidies, the Finance Minister estimates.

The new cluster of COVID-19 cases, whose origin remains unknown, has the country's largest city at level 3 and the rest of the country at level 2 until at least the end of Wednesday, August 26.

So far the wage subsidy, paid to employers who can prove a loss of revenue directly caused by the pandemic and lockdowns so they can keep staff on, has cost $13.1 billion.

£116 billion:The amount we know the government has spent on these measures so far (where measures have already been implemented and data are available).

£89 billion:The amount we know the government has loaned or guaranteed so far (where data are available).

With all due respect Beth you really cannot compare NZ to the UK in any way, shape or form...

It is an island...that closed its borders at the first sign of a pandemic.

    Australia bdid the same.

That is all I am comparing and was all I ever really expected.

To be honest we haven't fully closed our borders still

Don’t be silly Sooper. The Falklands have had no deaths whereas we have had 127k. Both islands. it’s the same for desperado’s trying to divert attention away from Labours dreadful performance.

You could close New Zealand and no one would notice (apart from Kiwi)...

    Don't misquote me please Beth.
I didn't say I lauded or followed either Boris or the Government. No need to lie.
Misquoting people on here seems a common occurance when trying to make a point.

It is, of course, quite ridiculous to compare New Zealand with the UK, given the massive difference in population, density of communities and the fact that the UK is an incredibly busy international hub.
New Zealand certainly handled it all very well, I agree.

What parts of the restrictions do you disagree with?
Do you think the government should have left people to go bust and lose their jobs etc?

How do you explain the massive decline in support for the Labour party?

Please, if you want to reply, try not to portray what I've said inaccurately.

What else should they have done?
If they'd done nothing you'd slate them.
If they cured cancer you'd slate them.

Likewise Col, show me the same consideration too....my comments are not concerned about the awful showing of the Labour party ( at the polls and in general, I am not contesting that)....so please don't confuse the issue

More to do with the original comments a long way back ( which were not from you) saying that the success of the vaccine rollout was one of the reasons the polls had been so favourable to the Tories.

I was making the point..that the vaccine roll out was initiated and administered by the NHS, and didn't involve Serco or other cronie company.

It is the wonderful NHS that has produced the efficiency of the roll out...not the government.

Yes the government gave the money...but they have given loads of money to Serco for trace and track ...and...

I keep saying and it is THE ONLY POLITICAL POINT I AM MAKING.

Credit where credit is due ..thank God for the NHS, it is staffed and run by absolute heroes..

Blimey Beth with all due respect you have been talking a load of old rubbish today. You need to get over your hatred for the government because it blinds you.
As I have said before, that there are some who dislike the fact that the roll out has been a success for the government.
No one on here (especially me) has ever said anything but fab comments about the NHS.
    However
The NHS is controlled by the UK government through the Department of Health and Social Care (DHSC), which takes political responsibility for the service.
That was always my point and it’s fact. Accept it and move on.

I am moving on....and going to bed

I am going to dream about that doctor who got elected to parliament in about 2001 as an independent on the simple platform of keeping Kidderminster hospital A & E open..

Maybe that is my way forward

    Move on, good one!

I won't presume to speak for Beth, but for my part what grates is the fact that this government has taken undue credit for the vaccine roll-out and that its previous catalogue of Covid ****-ups has been brushed under the carpet. The credit for the roll-out success belongs to the NHS and the thousands of volunteers such as Beth, not the government.

Oh okay. You need to take those specs off. The NHS and volunteers have done a fab job however they are part of an organisation and the top bods happen to be the government.
It’s like me at work... I do a fab job but my bosses at the top get all the money and credit. However I wouldn’t have a job without them. We wouldn’t have a vaccine without the government support. as I have been saying for some time the vaccine roll out has been an all round fab effort... and that includes the government.

This seems to be the general consensus....

From what I’ve heard Boris Johnson personally defrosts the vaccine between his thighs, Matt Handcock applies the local anaesthetic to your arm with his tongue and then, rather less gently, Priti Patel hurls the needle like a javelin into your flesh and Rishi Sunak uses his full size and weight to jump up and down on the plunger to push the precious liquid into your muscle. In special cases little Rishi shows the lucky recipient his bank balance and laughs hysterically. All 13 million jabs have been delivered this way, with no help from volunteers, local authorities and health services or healthcare professionals. This is entirely done by the Tory Party, and anybody who contradicts this is a traitor and doom monger, and is personally responsible for the world beating death rate and economic collapse we have achieved.
