That’s stunning. Not sure I’d be inspired to play the likes of Idles looking out at that though. I am just starting to buy vinyl again and my son recommended a website called Banquet Records. They seems to sell some interesting versions of albums in alternative colours and weight pressings.
Pretty blown away by how ****ing good this album by Squid is. Must've listened to it four or five times today, and as a whole album it is a work of art. It won't be to everyones taste (put it on last night - Jnrs reaction "that's damn good"....Mrs' reaction - "What the **** is that noise!!") but I'm really impressed with how they've evolved over the two to three years that I've been listening to them. Some great tunes away from the three singles released on the album....
You should see it when it's pissing down - that's when the heavy stuff gets played! Bought stuff from Banquet, Assai, Townsend Music, Rough Trade, or direct from artist - if all else fails there's Amazon but I try not to buy from them as they take a big cut of the profits away from the bands and the independant record stores. Saving my pennies for a turntable and speaker upgrade - blasting the house through a guitar amp is fun but I'm wanting a clearer sound!
I’ve been a bit extravagant as no holiday and treated myself to a Michell Gyrodec (2nd hand) and a Pathos hybrid amp. Always wanted a Gyro since I saw one on the old Kellogg’s Start advert as a teenager.
As a tragic Clapton & Frampton fan, this classic Beatle song, which runs for 8+ minutes, from these performers is simply brilliant.
Have to agree Steels. As I was working alone in the studio the album got three plays. Documentary Filmaker, one of my favourites outside of the singles, surprised me with its jazz undertone. GSK was a great start. Plenty to shout about in the album. Be very interesting to see how they grow forward as a band. They definitely have that unique feel, which is pretty tough these days. They have a very good way of using silences in their tracks - that’s a tough discipline within their genre. Looking forward to another listen today.
You should have a listen to Snapped Ankles, Black Midi and Black Country, New Road - I can hear similarities to all three in some of the tracks. This is very Black Midi-ish....
Cheers they have had another album since that one, I fear they are repeating a similar sound for the first time in 44 years, well I guess it happens. But what a fantastic of sound. Been refunded the tickets for last years tour waiting to here hear for the next one. Saw them first in 78 liked them since their first album Pink Flag, what an album second and third Chairs missing and 154 can’t think of a band with their first three albums better.
Came across this rarity today....now, I'm a huge fan of Mansun but I'd never even heard of this tune - a single that was recorded, but never finished as the band split up. A rough demo was found, and then made available as a download if you bought their compilation album (you had to insert the CD into your PC to get the download link!)
