That was a game I would have enjoyed being a spectator at. Our openers are so good, their opening record together is ludicrous. Probably our best and most consistent ever.
I was going to bed, looked down at my phone at ESPN cricinfo and then checked again 5 mins later and realised the carnage that was occurring and thought yep, we've got that one. Reminded me a bit of that test match against South Africa where Stokes and Bairstow went bananas
Just read a quote from Kohli in which he praises the England batters. "They (Bairstowe and Stokes) did so well without ever giving the slightest chance to us" which is incredible in a 175 run stand at that pace. I believe Jonny and Roy have had 47 matches together with 13 of them producing century stands. And a large portion of the rest will have been 50's.
At the beginning of the India innings a list of the most successful opening partnerships of all time was posted. Bairstowe and Roy have a century partnership every 3.3 innings, Tendulkar and Jadeja and McCullum and Ryder were both next on 4.4 innings. So it is official, they are the best of all time.
72 - 3 95 - 4 168 - 6 Not looking good Brilliant innings by Sam Curren 95 no. Lost by 7runs. Great game and series
England all-rounder Ben Stokes has been named Wisden's leading cricketer in the world for the second year in a row. Stokes, 29, is the first Englishman to win the award twice since its inception in 2004. He scored more Test runs than any other batsman in 2020, with 641 in seven matches, while also taking 19 wickets.
Kiwis look a good team. 378 in 1st innings. England, poor start 7 - 1 18 - 2 Creepy out for 2. 90-2 Burns 53 Root 29 111-2 at stumps. Looking forward to tomorrow
