I totally agree with you our team has degenerated into a shameful pub team, the season is over, I'm looking forward to an exciting pre season and a vast improvement next season, the lunatics have already left or will be leaving the asylum and we hopefully have the right guy at the helm. Up the City

Do we though? He has been pi$$ poor as far I’m concerned and for me a 3 year contract on this showing is a HUGE risk, and I was pro NP being appointed. He has not brought any of his experience and skills to the table so far. We are worse and more feeble under him than we ever were under DH in my opinion!

A shameful season is finally over and let's hope that most of the under performers never wear our shirt again. All the promises have been flushed down the drain and yet again we await a new season where hopefully Nigel can put the remaining pieces back together and move us on from the laughable zone. Unless all hands pull together right from the off we may have to endure more torture, but somehow I believe we can rise above the mediocrity put on display this time out.

I'm a bit like you, quite disappointed after all his hype, I expected more....not necessarily with results but attitude and desire...
Must give benefit of the doubt and see what happens to the lead up to next season..

‘We will have higher standards’ demands Pearson
    Saturday, May 8th 2021

Nigel Pearson says City’s staff and players will honestly assess a disappointing season and that he will demand higher standards for the Robins to be successful.

City’s season ended in a 3-1 defeat to Brentford to bring the curtain down on a disappointing campaign.

And Pearson reflected candidly, telling Robins TV: “I’m sure there will be a sense of relief from many people now the season is over. We can count our lucky stars and be lucky we’ve not been embroiled in that relegation battle because our recent form suggests we should have been in it.

“It’s been a tough season in many ways. We need to address the issues we’ve suffered from: availability of players, the baseline fitness of our squad is not high enough and the games programme made it difficult to make training adaptations. The players are aware of our thoughts as a group and we have to reflect on the season, look at the reasons and make sure the adjustments are made.”

    Standards
Pearson, who has signed a three-year contract, added: “If we have aspirations to be a successful club then the standards have to be higher and how we operate needs to be slicker, more efficient, so it’s a really big challenge.

“I’m still very optimistic we can shape the club in a very positive way during the summer, both in terms of the transfer window, which is important for us, but we need to make a big adjustment and effect the players who will be staying here. We have some good players, but they haven’t been available for long enough.”

    Recovery
“The close season is our next opportunity to make positive changes. It’s clear having back-to-back seasons without a great deal of pre-season in-between, they’ll need a chance to physically and mentally recover. This is an opportunity for people in the club, both players and staff, to make an important change in how we take the club forward. Rest and recovery is important but there has to be ownership and a shared accountability. These times are where you learn a lot about who’s on board.”

    Honesty
Pearson says there will be a frank assessment of the season, saying: “Honesty is always critical in how you reflect on failures and we shouldn’t shy away from that. It’s been difficult but we have an opportunity to do something about it. There will be changes in the playing staff, among the support staff where we feel are most appropriate and, as I’ve already said before, it’s now the chance for people to make their decision if they’re on the journey or not.”

    Game day reflections
“I thought in the first half we worked really hard collectively, and I’ve not been able to say that enough recently. I expect it as a given, so to be pleasantly surprised is an improvement on other games but it shows you where we are.

“We were in it for an hour and then it became very one-sided. Their experience, fitness level and quality shone through and we had a lot of young players come the end, but I thought they coped with the situation well and embraced the challenge.”

“For someone like Louis Britton who has had to be patient it’s a great reward for him. There are positives but I’m loathe to give an overly positive angle because it’s about getting results and we’ve failed. We need to assess how we go about learning but also making the adjustments we need to become a more competitive side at this level.

    Supporters
Fans have loyally watched City on Robins TV and Pearson reflected: “I understand the frustration that our fans have, it must be so difficult not to be present at Ashton Gate, to be able to vent their emotions on a matchday. But I think we’re fortunate to have such a loyal following and it’s our responsibility to create something which our fans, when they come back in hopefully for the start of next season, that they enjoy the experience more than this year. It must’ve been painful at times to see the home defeats.

    Criticism
Pearson admits that he is ultimately responsible, saying: “We’ve lost far too many games and I would expect to have to shoulder more criticism than I have. Whether I’m criticised or not I do take the full weight of responsibility for the team because it’s my team. We have to be honest about the situation, we know we’re short compared to where we want to be. Our fans at times must wonder why we’re in the situation we are because of the start we had.

    Culture
“I want to be part of creating a culture here which has an identity the fans can recognise as something they are supportive of and believe in. That’s not easy but that’s why I do this job. It’s a love-hate relationship in terms of it can eat away at me but I love the challenge of being part of something where there’s an end product that people are proud of.

“Thank you to the club and the fans, let’s see what next year brings.”

I agree, the team played today consisted of a lot of youth but none of the ones that people have said deserted ages ago. Sure they dug in but once the first goal went we fell apart.

I can’t help but wonder if NP was happy for, maybe even orchestrated the slide knowing we were safe. Gives him the ammo he needs to got to the Landsdown to spend money in the summer!
He has had 2 months to improve the standards and effort, and I actually think we have regressed in terms of performance since he took over - and I didn’t think that was possible.... I still think he could do a good job, but he’s made a right hash of it so far, but was it deliberate is the question?

I was quite warmed by the last quarter as the youngest? team fielded by City held on to a 2-0 loss! In fairness I would make sure all the players on the field after 53 mins were on at least 2 year plus 1+ year deals … any any good after January consider tying them down to a bit longer! the team on the pitch t the end has a good 5 or 6 years in them!

Jesus H Christ couldn't get some of our lazy, gutless pussies to play. Yesterday with a 17 year and 2 19 year olds starting and a 3rd coming on to score on his debut, embarrassingly showed how piss poor some of the players thankfully not involved actually are.

I keep asking but still do not get a sensible reply, pray tell how you pass on your experience, skill and motivate players who do not seemingly want any of that? I would have thought that the out of contract players would be busting a gut to either earn a new contract with us or a new employer, as Diedhiou is finding out to his cost, him and his advisors have backed him so far into a corner, Middlesborough hold all of the cards and what he is being offered is nowhere near what he expected.

Let me put it this way even all of the pundits at our level are acutely aware of where our problems lie (but I suppose what do they know?) and I would suspect that possible suitors will shy away from some of our players, football is a small world and those suitors will be well aware of and some of them will be in for a shock.

    Wow.

The only deliberate hash has been from certain shameless players, but hopefully that will backfire on them.

The FACT is that most of our core team has been playing dire - seemingly disinterested.
    The mystery is; why?
Has Nige told them he doesn’t want them? Did they only want to play for LJ? Are they simply crap?
I would have thought they would be playing for their futures.

We fell apart the moment we lost Mariappa (and I not much of a fan of his), up till then we had defended well, Vyner is a talent but switches off far too often in our box, loses his man far too often and then losing Simpson who was playing well for Sessegnon defensively we became a mess.

They got LJ sacked, no wins in his last 9 games in charge, we only won 2 more games last season to this season and were even incapable of turning the odd defeat into draws, when the rot sets in a decline is inevitable, I have personally thought for over 3 years now that this squad was poor, no leaders and physically weak.

Anybody who believes that over the past 3 years this squad has put in 100% in every game is deluded.

It's a new dawn, the era of Lee Johnson, Mark Ashton, Dean Holden and their cabal is over, it really is a fresh start, the weeding out of the doughboy players, inferior backroom (backward) staff, has begun, higher fitness levels, training precedures, team bonding, winning mentalities and tactical development is happening.

NP is shaking up our tree of life, the club needs a massive change of direction from top to bottom, the rotten debris is falling out of the branches, complacency should be a thing of the past, it will take time to rejuvenate and create self belief, quality new replacements, serious determined concentrated effort to jel all of the new style will be needed.

It took 5 years to get us into this terrible downward, deteriorated state ( Interesting Mark Ashton's stewardship)NP has got 3 months to instill and ignite the new direction and we should only get better from then, we should make judgements, compliments or critique if required at that time.

Now is the time for us all to move forward, get used to it the team will.

You are correct and reading your post, in a way our plight is similar to the gas, but dealt with differently, Barton went on a public rant slagging off his players and past managers and the head of recruitment who is still in place now and with 5 games of the season left when they still had a chance of survival. Pearson has acknowledged there is problems and criticised overall performances and warned that players were playing for their BCFC careers, but not publicly slagging players off but I think yesterdays squad spoke volumes for the future.
What will be interesting is what players end up at Sunderland, Ipswich and Stoke.

But Wiz, LJ has been gone for more than a season and 2 transfer windows now, but we’ve just had the worst season since our arrival in the Championship.
I hope NP can do something I really do - and he’s done it before, but right now I haven’t seen any of his ‘magic’.
I was really excited when he arrived but now I’m just praying.
