There's a simple reason: Champions League matches don't have a guarantee of dogshit officials in charge of VAR The problem with Premier League VAR is the officials are watching each other's backs more than watching the games, which is enabled by The FA because if anyone dares suggest this it won't be the officials being sanctioned for it
There is no way that the system is even accurate enough to judge a call as close as that. But they won't even admit that there is a margin for error, and pretend that it's 100% which is can't be. Nothing like this could possibly be, the technology isn't and certainly if there is any human input like deciding when the ball is actually played an element of doubt is introduced. Claiming the system is accurate is almost as annoying as the wrong decisions being made. We wouldn't have deserved it but that would have put us 1-2 ahead and who knows what would happen. And teams get ahead and win games all the time when they don't deserve it.
European refs are generally a lot, lot better than ours, both those on the pitch and those in the VAR hub.
One other thing to note that I've noticed due to these threads is that the VAR officials in Europe aren't always from the same country as the ref. That may help with the pally bullshit or any bias.
Similar with the World Cup Yet the odds of somebody at The FA slapping their forehead and saying "Of course...!" are infinitesimal
I can remember a headline from the past. "The Day A Team Died". As far as Spurs are concerned this season has really died as far as the players are concerned. Maybe a Psychiatrist could be employed to get into their heads!?
Being out of the top flight for so long it’s our first season of VAR, I’d stopped watching PL football a long time ago. I’d seen complaints of VAR and not taken much notice until this season, diabolical ain’t it. We’ve had our fair share against us, it’s just not being used correctly.
Yeah, it's not the technology, it's the people using it. You can see that from other leagues, like the Bundesliga. They'll piss about for ages trying to fix it, but they'll never work out why it's rubbish.
They need to forget the “is your knee or armpit offside” and the vertical line nonsense, just go by the boots. If the furtherest part forward is judged solely on the feet of the attacker in comparison to the furthest player back it would be a start
If an attacker at the review moment is going to be at least one stride in front of the line of the last defender, they are offside, None of this millimetre "hair width" nonsense.
The moment they deliberate for about 45+ seconds having brought out the lines and angles, you know it’s not going to be a clear and obvious decision, at that moment, give the benefit of the doubt to the attacker and move on. Fans watch football primarily for goals, when you know you can’t be 100% sure if someone’s offside or not, or if it’s touched their hand or not, don’t take the negative option and rule something out.
Kane and Son aren't far off, at a little more than 3700 each, Lloris has played even more with 4,110, but nobody else is really close.
agreed or do what they do in cricket, on field decision... If not blatantly obvious within seconds go with the ref or linesman decision. VAR still didn’t help when it was the most obvious injustice last season, the goal Villa conceded but it wasn’t given last season and kept them up
What is the point of Lo Celso - one goal and three assists in two years. Awful. We have some poor players but this guy seems to go under the radar. £36m. Alli would have been far better in that time given the chances.
There are four seperate issues on offside and VaR: 1) The clear error rule doesn't apply because offside is deemed to be factual. I am happy with this but see 3) 2) What the rule actually is. Level or daylight or whatever. I can't get excited about that because it will still be a factual decision however it is written. 3) Can they actually draw the lines with sufficient accuracy to give someone offside by a few mm? Obviously not so there should be some leeway. 4) Which part of the body counts. The obvious solution is the feet which are in contact with the ground so makes drawing the lines more precise.
I think Lo Celso and Ndombele were bought to play together in the midfield 2. Bruno Fernandes was slated to be Eriksen's replacement.
I'm pretty sure they were signed to replace Eriksen and Dembele respectively. Though it's pretty obvious they're not fit to lace the boots of their predecessors. It seemed like we had a choice of Bruno or Lo Celso, we wouldn't have signed Bruno on top of Ndombele and Lo Celso. Bruno would've cost a bit more than Lo Celso as well as having performance related add-ons but would've been well worth it.
How would he have been worth it? We never get penalties, so he'd be added to the list of players you want to sell
