honestly I don’t think we lacked confidence as a unit today, we were wanting for some quality in the box that’s it. We matched them well all over the pitch and only needed to score our one on ones to win the game. Not much else to complain about against a team that are a league above us in terms of talent.
There wasn't quality balls in the box because there wasn't any movement and that is what Ings gives us.
Nah, it’s just balance. We don’t have to be happy with it but at the end of the day we are watching other people play with a ball, it’s not worth being miserable about it ALL THE TIME. Some positivity is warranted usually.
Yeah we always looked most likely on the counter and against that back line it was the right approach. Would have worked too if it was Ings I expect. im impressed with how Ralph has us defending against the counter now. I can’t recall the last time I worried about conceding after our own corner which used to be a consistent problem. Still going to get caught out from time to time but our shape and organisation isn’t our problem, it’s the individual quality.
I thought it was a decent performance tonight. Lots of commitment and effort and 2-0 was flattering as we obviously felt until quite late on a point was there for us. Stephens deserves a special mention for an excellent performance at left back. Actually better than some of his CB performances! Looking forward to next season, I don't see too much missing. We obviously need another 15+ goal a season striker to take the pressure off Danny Ings. We also need new FB to cover and press the incumbents. It's a decent team that lacks depth (other than midfield and the '10' roles). Having given them a season, I am less convinced by Obafemi (and N'lundulu). They have the physique but not the finish. I thought he same about Sam Gallagher. They will make it but probably not here.
I agree, I thought Jack played very well again. The best compliment is that I don't think we missed Ryan at all
Surprised you guys didn’t just knock it into the space behind Williams abs just get defence turned. Main times you got in were in those gaps because he’s as slow as anything. Just didn’t seem to exploit it as much as should have done. Alisson won us the game thankfully, and says a lot when keeper is motm in a 2-0 win. Didn’t realise quite how bad your forms been, lucky season is only 3/4 more games rather than 8/9 or could be in trouble!! Thought vestergaard looked quality, assured on the ball and big enough to win everything in the air. Might make a nice partner for vvd next season?
^^this Two 9-0 defeats doesn't maybe on the surface show it, but Ralph is learning. We don't want to be the testing ground for him, only for him to go to someone else and get it perfect after testing it out on us.
And even if Lpool are having a poor season they could still bring on Firmino and the Ox as subs. Surely they’d be first choice in any league . Just demonstrates the gulf between the haves and have nots in the PL.
See, they come on with a compliment to soften you up, then they get in a dig about how **** you’ve been and finally they wave the wallet around and joke not jokingly about poaching the best talent. And so the cycle continues. Liverpool fans, one title in 30 years and they think they’re back in the 1980s. It’s probably all the shell suits, hard to move on when your wardrobe hasn’t.
I agree about N'Lundulu, but Obafemi is still only 20 (and has had a lot of injury issues to deal with). We need to give him a couple more seasons to mature. Look at Newcastle and Ivan Toney. Sold him when he was 22, a few years later and he's the hottest property in the Championship. Let's not make that mistake. I'd be looking to loan Obafemi out to a Championship side for next season, he could bang in 15-20 goals, and would be amazing experience for him.
A lot of good performances last night Definitely playing better again, let’s hope we can continue with that v Palace A couple of things to mention ... What’s happened to Theo? Jack doing really well at LB Vesty looking masterful Redders much more positive now Stu has adapted amazingly well to the CM role MOTM
