Im not qualified to state that, what im trying to do is advise of past experience that he hasnt reached the depths ive see before & encourage him that hes probably (hopefully) not fully at that stage yet but also state hes not in a good place, if you read my previous comments i state hes taken the hardest step by admitting he has & an issue, also asking for help.

If your reading any of what i said as it could be lapped up for him to continue as he is thats 100% not the case, I personally believe it takes some guts to come on here & admit he has a problem. I think he deserves a positive spin taking the help he can come out of the other side, others have said for him to keep us updated & i hope he does as like i say i have see family not come out of that side & want to hear hes sorted

Just sat in my first online aa meeting, didn't speak or turn my cam on, but to see and hear people like me that have or are struggling with drink and to know there is a huge support network available has certainly opened my eyes.

You could talk through text, which helped my say hello and 2 people messaged me their numbers and offered help and support.

Its going to be a long road but one I know I can make the end of

Great news. The fact that you know that you can beat this is fantastic and people in a similar situation offering you support hopefully reafirms to you that you're not alone in all of this.

You've taken a big step in admitting you have a problem( no matter what other people think). You are also taking steps to rectify the situation. I've never been in that situation with drink but have been close to it with substance abuse and admitting it is a big thing.

Good luck and i'm sure people on here will be able to chat if you need it.

Many similarities in our situations & recognise your problem, it’s familiar. It’s hard.
Hope you get whatever help you need. If you find any useful tips please share.
Well done you, take care & good luck

How much are you supping a day chunk?

I have a family member who I suspect is drinking far too much, but won’t face up to it.

It was at least 4 to 8 cans a night, every night, depending on if I had wine first.

As an average I'd say half a bottle of wine and 4 cans a night

Not sure if that’s enough to qualify as an alcoholic chunky.

My late father in law used to blend half a litre of whisky into his tomato soup at lunchtime.

He once drank 46 pints in a day, in an ambitious shot at the world record attempt. I believe that he actually made the world record thing up, and it was a ploy to hoodwink fellow drinkers to buy him the beer.

He was a cracking lad like yourself, but never owned up to his demons. Your doing the right thing by sorting your situation early, and not end up like poor Cecil, god bless his soul.

It's got nothing to do with quantity, if it's causing problems personally and at home it's a problem.

All the best @Chunksafc . You have taken the first and hardest step. No doubt it will be tough but being a Sunderland fan, we are made of harder stuff. KTF :emoticon-0165-muscl

Poor old Cecil never saw it as a problem, he always said whisky made the liver stronger. Set in his ways, but a strong lad who worked for years in the mines.

He once drove from Blyth to Somerset as pissed as a goose on a Yamaha motorcycle. He told me it was to meet a woman, but I believe it was to enter an all you can drink competition. A stupid event, but considered fun in them days.

For anyone trying to get off the booze, I wish you all the success with it. It can be a nasty habit, which ruins lives. Cecil will be raising a glass to you up in the sky.

Guess the 'Tom'. I didn't know this about his past but fair play to the fella. It can be done.

Tom Hardy? Fair play to him if that's the case. Easier said than done but it shows you what you can achieve if you can stop being a slave to drink /drugs.
