Brilliant day out that, up there with one of the best away days. Though the 2nd leg at ours was one of the most nerve-racking.
A bit slow in answering - someone else probably already did - in fact I think I mentioned it in an earlier post. A. Peter Osgood. Edit: Your question was posed in April 2013
Answered by John Ex Aberdeen a few posts later! My husband was at the Hammersmith Palais on the evening of the drawn match at Stamford Bridge and met Osgood there who missed the match that afternoon due to not fully recovering from a bout of tonsillitis. He said he would be in the team for the Hull replay and indeed he was, assisting in a couple of goals in the 3-1 win. True to form Osgood was good.
True Mrs. B_M_B, I had spotted John's post. Just for accuracy, I actually pointed out Osgood's absence in the Stamford Bridge game in an earlier post ( post # 446, Feb 14th 2013 on page 23 of the "History" thread). I managed to get to both games. Osgood killed us in the replay as you say. Ex LUFC player pal of mine sent me this old HDM snap a month or so ago. I still can't recall who actually got the tickets for me for the replay. The ravages of time ! Sent: Wednesday, March 31, 2021, 03:47:12 p.m. EDT Subject: 55 yrs! Fifty five years ago today Hull City played Chelsea in a FA Cup quarter-final replay at Boothferry Park in front of 42,000 fans. Four days earlier, this pic was taken on Anlaby Rd shortly before tickets for the match went on sale.
In the return game at Boothferry Park, we were singing Osgood no good, he certainly put the record straight.
Hi all, just joined the forum (at last!). Hope you enjoy my City history/stats website, let me know if you can think of any improvements or additions! https://tigerbase.hullcity.com/ Best viewed on a large screen/desktop PC.. cheers! Matt
Absolutely - don’t make a penny from it apart from Ko-Fi donations. Very proud of it, and like to keep it advert-free if I can
