As per my earlier post, I am genuinely interested in the problems Smug has faced, if only to be forewarned of them for myself!
I had no problem applying for and getting a long term (10 year) residence card. Had to go the department admin offices (Prefecture) and get finger-printed, but all done with no hassle and politely. Still getting medical cover etc. with no issues.
So apart from not being able to vote in the local elections, not a lot has changed.
Of course getting stuff from the UK is now a pain, so parts for my Land Rover and Mini will cost more. But hopefully this will settle down over time.

But good luck to Smug, and hope the increase in wine and beer costs doesn't hurt too much!

4 days to go, wonder if smug will return a 'happier' man now he is back in blighty and we can all get along again?

have to admit though, been very quiet with no 'fally-outs' recently.

hope all went smooth with the move and job though smug, stressful times are house moves, can only imagine a 'house-country-job' move to be horrendous.

no offence to Smug, but I think its been a lot calmer and sensible on here in past weeks, although I think that has more to do with the absence of that Sandy Camel gadgy, **** knows what his problem was, but I hope they can all come back to the table after their respite. I think.

That's not true, what about the battle of the Monkey Hangers, with class traitors eg obsequious lickspittles parading their wares calling folk commies, and a mod closing the the thread down. I went to bed last night thinking it was coming along nicely then this morning found no more fun to be had!

I take it I'm the class traitor. Didn't call anyone a Commie though.

It's been very quiet since Smug's sabbatical, after we were easily one of the busiest boards on the forum (if not the busiest), we've still had arguments, and I hope that he is allowed to contribute and add value to our board without anyone looking to 'trip him up.'

He is, of course, not faultless and he's made mistakes like all of us, but in the main he is a valuable asset as far as I'm concerned and I look forward to his return (whenever that is) :emoticon-0105-wink:

I hope Smug's move has gone without too many difficulties and so he is able to come back on here soon.

For a start off I'd love to hear if he is able to wangle himself a ticket for the Playoff Final <wizard>

It has been quieter without him, but I imagine it has been murder for the poor guy not being able to come on here and let off steam after the results of our recent games :steam:

Smug has been on here for years and is a bloody good poster. If he has a fault is it his passion and fighting for what he believes in. Is that even a fault?

If there has been a falling out on here so what. Its a bloody forum where we voice our opinions. Hopefully come May 14th he's back and we all act responsibly and sensibly........................at least until the 15th:emoticon-0111-blush.

An early welcome back to Smug who has so much to add to the forum and always has , I’m sure he will have a lot to say on his return - is our recent blip because he wasn’t here to keep an eye on things .

It's nothing major mate, just lots of small things that have taken the edge off living here. As much as anything it's a slight change in the attitude of the French, definitely a 'them and us' change. As an example the police have been in the village checking people during the curfew. One of them asked if there weren't any local French people who could be doing our jobs. We've lived in France for a total of around 15 years, and never been asked that before

They also want us to be fingerprinted, have French driving licences, etc which is all more paperwork, something I'm never keen on ...

... or perhaps there's been a change in me and I want a calmer life, something that I never thought would happen.
